Could I have a target of 21 for June please Baileys :)

Arkers, I don't have any answers on that one, and am facing a similar dilemma in October, when I will be having a long stay with family, a situation that I have traditionally coped with by taking to drink :) Could you tell your travelling companions upfront that you want to refrain from drinking for a certain amount of the time and try to enlist their support? Alternatively, since it's a road trip, could you be designated driver? ...

DoingItAnyway, I've always advocated lying about what you're drinking when out with work buddies, because sadly it's deemed acceptable to bully colleagues if anyone chooses to go AF on a works night out. Good on you for making it work for you
    Thanks Honey Bear :)

I rather think a large number of people are expecting a unicorn any day, but they're not on this thread. :( Bad Honey Bear.

13/17 for me, family get together yesterday and really wanted a glass of wine so very pleased I stayed strong.

It's my birthday in June - although I'd like to think I would stay AF for the month, I don't want to feel like I've failed if I do have a drink to celebrate so I'm going for 28/30 and if I do manage the month that's a bonus!

Not related to this thread, but hopefully you guys won't mind me discussing. We are off on a long (independently) planned family road trip to Canada, and for some bizarre reason I'm feeling really nervous about the whole thing. This is the first time I've organised such a long haul holiday and as there are 5 adults going, and organising it hasn't been trouble free. I'm also worried about drinking too much on the holiday and wasting opportunities to enjoy it when I'm there. The reason being is that I always drink a lot when away holiday=too much drinking.

Am I overthinking things, probably but fishing for some reassurance! Thanks for listening.

    Arkers x

I'm not sure about how to go about this, because along with not drinking during the day, I never associated holidays with drinking more than I usually did. For what it's worth, here's my thoughts.

I'd enlist the help of one person in the group that you know is sensible. If it's suggested that a drink during the day would be fab, if you suggest or ask for coffee, I'd hope your trusted confident would not nescessarily have a coffee as well, but would support your choice if anyone had a pop or teased you to have something stronger. It's remarkable how much that helps at the moment of indecision.

The other thing that's been suggested by someone is to put a rubber band on your wrist, and ping it every time you have a thought that you'd rather wish hadn't occurred. The physical sensation of it pinging back against your wrist kind of snaps you out of the 'stuck' place.

Alcohol's a tricky thing to manage, but if you don't have your first drink until you've got some food, so a bit more like the French than the English basically, the effect of it will be diminished and you'll be more in control of how much you drink.

And lastly, I'd trust yourself to be bright enough to be the person you want to be. You've been doing brilliantly, so you know you can.

30 for June please, Baileys, and 28/31 for May please.
    Better is good enough.

Hi Arkers, I’m no angel and have a tendency to really ramp up my drinking while away too.

I would have a think about a no booze before x time rule, and perhaps plan an AFD in or try an AF journey. Last time we hired a car so I put in a few more AFDs near the start which helped. And instead of my usual drink the day after overdoing it I promised myself if I was hungover I wouldn’t drink that day. Sun and heat and just to avoid that toxic feeling building up.

The other thing for me on a group holiday would be to plan a nice thing just for me. Eg an early morning walk, swim or a book or music you love to try and set your pattern positively. And taking timeout if they annoy you to chill out.

    All good stuff in theory!

8/10 for me today. Please can I have a target of 15 for June.

    Good morning everyone,
    17 please Baileys
Thanks for your comments on my tendency to overdrink and overthink my holiday. Hopefully I'll park my worry bug and relax and enjoy the experience.

    Have an enjoyable BH everyone.

Not sure about June Baileys thing I might go TF
