Not happy with fitted carpet

Hi, I had a carpet fitted on my landing yesterday. The laminate flooring from the bedrooms are sticking out into the landing, some at an angle. I tried negotiating with the fitter to correct the problem and even offered to pay a discounted price to fix it because he insisted that we left the laminate too long. He did not advise us that they don't trim it down and that it would be sticking out.

Do I have any rights regarding this matter, or do I have to pay the full price for a new carpet?

I cannot post an image due to being new. Google "city carpet care clifton nottingham" and click on the review to see an image if my description is not clear enough.

Oh dear.....to be fair he's only there to fit the carpet and you should have arranged for the laminate to be trimmed back beforehand

the carpet in your review looks really well fitted...

the carpet fitter fitted the carpet well, he's not there to fix all the other bodges in your house.

its the person who fit the laminate who you should be complaining too, who was that?

What was there before? Couldn't you see that it was going to stick out?

If it wasn't obvious before fitting that the laminate would show, I would expect the fitter to tell you before starting work, but I can't see how it wouldn't have been obvious. They probably thought you were happy with it and why wouldn't they, unless you mentioned it before they started? IMO it was your responsibility to get the laminate sorted before the carpet fitter arrived. Unless they also fit laminate and you'd asked them before they turned up if they could fix that first, it's not their job and not their fault that you don't like how it looks now.

If you speak to the carpet shop, they may be able to help you out on replacing the carpet on the landing (and by that I mean a small discount if they can) but it would be a good will gesture only. Get the laminate sorted first!

We fitted the laminate, deliberately leaving excess for the carpet fitter to advise where he wanted it cutting off so that it looks nice. I expected them to advise us that it would look aweful, but they did not. The carpet is fitted well, but it looks aweful and would have been obvious when it was fitted, but we were not upstairs at the time.

Well, from the comments that I am receiving, it would definitely come across as being my fault, and as such, I will accept responsibility. Thank you so much for your comments.

Only yourselves to blame if you left the laminate like that. The fitter hasn't got time to fix that.

I tried speaking to them, but they are on full defense and just blaming me. They don't seem willing to negotiate a deal at all regarding a refit.

The deal would be that you pay their charge to remedy your mistake. They shouldn't need to negotiate, you either accept their charge or not. If you don't wish to pay it, contact another fitter and see if they are any cheaper.
