Carpet fitted well. More advise regarding the final result around other fittings would be greatly appreciated. Customer service appalling (blame game instead of coming to a resolution).

It's you that is playing the blame game!

The laminate may need lifting to cut it to fit properly - should have been done at the time - no way is that the carpet fitters fault.

We fitted the laminate, deliberately leaving excess for the carpet fitter to advise where he wanted it cutting off so that it looks nice. I expected them to advise us that it would look aweful, but they did not. The carpet is fitted well, but it looks aweful and would have been obvious when it was fitted, but we were not upstairs at the time.

Well, from the comments that I am receiving, it would definitely come across as being my fault, and as such, I will accept responsibility. Thank you so much for your comments.

I think this a bit of a mess from your end.

You paid for a carpet fitter but expected an interior designer with remedial work included.

Carpet fitters turn up and lay carpet in the space the carpet fits. thats the start and end of their job, they don't have time or the skills to advise people in what to do, and if they had commented on the laminate its just as likely someone else would have ripped their ear off for insulting their fitting job!

its good of you to update your review (even if I still think its harsh, the carpet fitting looks great), a lot of people come here, don't hear what they want, and just don't come back.

This site would be amazing if all responses were as constructive as yours. Thank you. I like to admit when I am wrong, otherwise I will never learn anything. As for the harsh review, if in any one of the number of calls the representitive, in a calm manner, discussed a way forward, I would have been happy. A calm, "we are already low priced and cannot drop the price any lower, but will fit you in as a priority" would have had me happy paying the £60 refitting, but instead I was met each time with resistance and anger for the mistake I made, despite me accepting blame on a number of occasions, especially after posting on here just to confirm. Carpetright does a lot more than just "fit" the carpet, and I expected (unrelisticly perhaps) that to be the norm.

    I don't understand this bit,

" I tried negotiating with the fitter to correct the problem and even offered to pay a discounted price to fix it because he insisted that we left the laminate too long."

Surely if you wanted him to fix it you'd offer a bonus.

Exactly - I've been in a similar position and we've agreed an additional payment to sort out the problem we had caused.

Common sense I would think is that you’d have informed the fitters or the carpet company that you’d additional work over and above just fitted carpet and that the carpet fitter was also a laminate floor fitter too and that he’d the tools, equipment and expertise to doo that job also.

100% OP’s fault for assuming, you asked a carpet fitter to fit carpet and they did there job as requested

Did you ask him this before he fitted the carpet?

Were you going to cut it yourself after his advice?

Sorry but it does not make a lot of sense.

It sounds very much like you just thought he would trim it as part of fitting the carpet which is never usually the case unless agreed beforehand and factored into the price.

I am another one who feels sorry for the shop and the bad review you have given.

Hopefully they will be able to get Google to remove the review.

I can't think of any reason why the carpet fitter should sort the laminate issue out - he might not even have had the right tools with him.

    Shame on you Pieter Hartzer

Even of he had the skills and the tools no way would he touch work that had not been done by someone else. if there was any damage he would have been liable and not covered by insurance.
