NRG Corporation

Hi everyone

I tried looking this up to see if there was already a thread but didn't find anything. Apologies if I should have looked harder.

I got a phone call this morning from a company called NRG, telling me that British Gas had authorised them to act on behalf of its customers as an intermediary to get better prices for them. At no charge to the customer. They further advised me that the long term agreement with BG ran out on 19 February.

I should tell you that the customer here is my local church, for which I am the treasurer. We are treated as a business and have business gas charges.

NRG asked for my email address, sent me an Adobe agreement and pushed me to sign it today. Not a chance. After I got off the phone I looked up NRG. Seems to be a Japanese company that does handle business gas contracts in the UK. Legit so far.

Then I rang British Gas. Their call centre customer service advisor had never heard of NRG, knew nothing about them being "appointed" by British Gas, and confirmed that our existing contract doesn't expire until mid December this year, and that they will contact us well in advance to see if we want to renew.

Now I know that information doesn't always filter to the shop floor in a timely or accurate manner, and so the call centre lady might just have been ill informed, but I can't help wondering why British Gas would want NRG to help their customers get lower prices from them. I think it's a try on. The pressure to sign immediately without any thought or research is always a red flag to me.

Has anyone else come across NRG?

I wouldn't have let then get as far as asking for my e-mail address. I trust you didn't give it to them as it's the best way to end up with heaps of junk and scam mails.

AFAIC if I want to explore a better deal then I'll initiate it myself. I'm ultra wary of anyone cold calling me, whether it's a utility company, cheaper broadband, insurance or anything else and I'll never ever give out any personal ifo, including my e-mail address unless I've initiated the call myself to a known number.

Had the same company call me too, withheld number, told me British gas have authorised him to negotiate "better rates" - sent me a letter of authority which kept me on the phone to this annoying prat for about 20 minutes as the internet at my farm is slow. I said I'd like to read in my own time (No way am I signing anything from an unknown caller) in the end I didn't sign, he then got desperate and tried to quote me a renewal price (not even 6 months into my 3 year contract yet!)

All in all very shady. Just stick with your supplier or shop around, you don't want to be handing your energy accounts to these people.

    The company link is here:

    http://www.nrgcorp.co.uk

During a google search, I came up with this link that refers to NRG Installs Ltd which may have no link whatsoever with NRG Corporation. The video is worth listening to see how bad some companies are when dealing with TPS-listed numbers:

LINK NOW REMOVED BY BLOGGER - but the thrust of the conversation was:

Quote: But it gets worse, I mean really bad!

"I thought we were meant to call the numbers that the TPS give us" Unquote

My advice is - block all cold calls. I have a divert on my phone that puts all unknown calls into an answerphone. Genuine callers leave a message.

  • Hi there.  I've had a contract sent through to my company from these guys (NRG Corporation Limited) that looks all day long like it's from British Gas.  They sent it electronically to my company's [info@..] address via Adobe Sign.  It would be very easy for someone to simply click two boxes and boom, there you go, a new contract is created with your electronic signature.  They've done a very good job of hiding their identity in this process. Keep your eyes open!

Sadly it is all part of a very common scam in the business energy market, they will attempt to cobble together enough information to get you trapped into an expensive new contract with nasty exit penalties.
Businesses don't get the same protections as consumers so don't give these guys any information and don't agree to anything, not even verbally as they will record the call and use verbal agreement to establish a contract if they can...
They do have to give you certain information before they can establish a contract so if they go into rapid-fire reading of T&C's you are probably only a few seconds away from a world of financial pain.
Don't get into a conversation with cold-callers on this topic, it will end badly...
  • We have used NRG Corporation for the last 15 years for our gas and electric for our nursing home and deal with a Jake Thompson. Always been professional so I would disagree with some of these comments.

Which comments would you disagree with. That they are phoning up businesses inaccurately stating they BG passed them onto the customer? Why would anyone trust a company that does that?

It's quite suspicious when a new account pops up to say complimentary things about a business on a four year old thread that was panning the self-same business.
