Will Autoglass tell insurer if I cancel?
Have just booked Autoglass - online not via my insurer's "glassline" -for a windscreen repair in three days time but am now thinking of phoning local windscreen firms to see how their prices would compare with the £100 excess I'd be paying to Autoglass.
If I go direct to another firm and cancel Autoglass, will my insurer still find out from Autoglass that I've had an "incident" which I'll therefore have to declare for future insurance quotes? Autoglass have my reg no and name of insurer.

I would suspect that they already have notified them.0

Are they replacing the windscreen? If so I think you'll find the £100 excess quite a bargain. If they're only repairing stonechips then you can get it for much less elsewhere. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Most insurers won't insist on the same excess for repairs that they do for a replacement, in fact most insurers won't ask you to pay anything towards a repair if you use their preferred windscreen company hence why I asked whether it was a replacement or not. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Indeed, repair could involve putting in a new screen. As already stated £100 is much less than the full cost and AIUI windscreen repairs don't have any impact on your premium.0

Agreed, different insurers may also have different policies on it.0

....... AIUI windscreen repairs don't have any impact on your premium.
All claims (including glass ones) must be disclosed when asking for quotes (unless you are specifically told otherwise by the insurer)
At least one well known insurer I know doesn't give you any NCD if you have a glass replacement during the policy year.
You can get an idea how much effect a glass repair or replacement has on future premiums now by doing dummy quotes online with and without the claim in your history0 -

Mine didn't. I phoned round for prices to have it repaired myself and it was far more expensive then my excess. Then due to circumstances left it a couple of months before going through a different insurer as I'd found a cheaper renewal price. The new insurer didn't raise any queries about it. And my claims history only shows the one windscreen claim. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
