Thank you for all the messages it means a lot.
Capricornlass, my insurance should cover the whole thing but I need to phone and check at every stage. My Mum didn't take the news well then said can I hurry up and sell my house in case something happens! Not quite sure she meant it like that but I got a bit upset with her.
OH asked what I wanted for Mother's Day and I said an uninterrupted lie in. So here I am and I cannot sleep! Coming out of lurkdom Uniscots.
I'm very sorry to hear your news and that you are so worried. If it helps, about ten years ago I began to feel a lump on my throat whenever I put moisturiser/foundation on my neck. My GP thought it might something to do with my thyroid gland so sent me to the appropriate consultant (I was lucky too in that I had private insurance through work). After tests, the result was that I had a benign cyst on my thyroid gland, but the consultant concluded that it might be better to remove part of the thyroid gland with the cyst in case of eventual complications. This was effected through an operation under general anaesthetic and an overnight stay. He did say that it could effect my thyroid levels, but after tests my levels did stay above borderline, though they dropped about four years ago and my GP decided to put me on a dose of 1 levothyroxine tablet per day, which I have taken ever since without any ill effects. My levels are checked periodically, but I haven't had to increase my medication at all.
Incidentally the operation left me with a thin scar on my neck which has faded over time and you can't really see it all when I put foundation over it.
I hope the above allays your fears - the consultant did reiterate at the time that most of these lumps on the thyroid are benign.
I hope you appointment date arrives soon and do try not to stress in the meantime (easier said than done I know!).

Thank you Seasidegal. Hearing others have come through it ok gives me hope. Scars don't bother me, I have quite a few. I heard a really good quote tonight from the film a wrinkle in time. One of the characters was quoting a Persian poet " The wound is where the light enters you". I thought it was very meaningful yet simple.
I got a call from the hospital and my tests are next week. Just need to
Call the insurance company and confirm.
Not exactly money saving for me today. I saved 5p on a bag, but bought my friend's LO slippers, trainers and socks. The total of what I bought was over £30 but got it for just over £10.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
