High limit 0% purchase credit cards?!?

Options
Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any high limit 0% purchase credit cards - greater than a £5000 limit?

I've recently bought a second house and due to the extensive need for renovation I have a bit of a cashflow shortage coming up - as renovating costs will be incurred before the first house gets sold. It would be really useful if I could start using a 0% purchase credit card on some of my expenditure soon! I probably won't be able to put big things on there (e.g. extension) but should be able to put every day spend, paint, decorating etc.

Does anyone know of any 0% purchase credit cards with a higher than normal limit? I've just applied for a Sainsbury's 31 month 0% purchase credit card, but it suggest my limit is £4,500

I currently have 2 Amex cards with combined £17k limit - but hardly ever use either of them
Credit score is VERY healthy :beer::beer:

Thanks in advance!

Simon

Never mind. You might still be able to get a card.

Have you tried an eligibility checker? You might to start thinking longer term around your existing limits and future needs.

Your existing limits may be an issue depending on your income and credit history. Start using at least one of your cards regularly to demonstrate some good credit card usage.
  • Obviously it will depend upon your income and overall credit rating but Tesco and MBNA have recently given me £7000 limits, which I was then able to raise to £10,000, by reallocating part of existing, unused credit limits on other cards (obviously MBNA and Tesco) that I had.
  • Just to add to my last post, when I initially applied for first cards to both MBNA and Tesco, I was offered credit limits of £10,000+ for both, so they can be quite generous. This was based on an annual salary of around £45,000.
  • OH recently got a 30 month 0% purchases card from Tesco with limit of £10k.

He already had a card with Tesco with £7500 limit (not 0%)

Just shows that they all have different customer preferences- Amex and Barclaycard both gave me £18k limits whereas Tesco have never given me more than £4500.

Just in case he hasn't already done it, I seem to remember Tesco allow you to shift some credit limit from one card to another. Especially useful on such a long 0% on purchases deal.

How many have you had? I started out with £2-4K and I'm currently running No's 4 & 5 now (4 to be repaid and closed this week) and my last two have been £7.5K & £10K (the latter being a 'par for the course' limit for me, and granted when I had way over my income in the stooz pot).

Thanks for the tip. Would probably only encourage us to spend more, though!

Spend on essentials and planned spends only. Repay 1% each month and stick the other 99% in regular savings accounts. The 5% AER interest (x 2.5 years) would be welcome?

Of course don't do this if you've no willpower!

We've already done some spending on the card. One-off large costs. I've just been debating with myself whether to repay directly back to the card or to put the money in high interest and pay it back before the 0% ends.

We have mid-range willpower. Been religiously debt-free for two and a half years, using credit and paying back in full every month (until this card).
