    I bet it’s not a cream one :)

Nope. It's black. As every room, bar one bedroom and the downstairs toilet, has white walls a white/cream sofa would get lost in the sea of white.

OP, just tell DFS you're exercising the short term right to reject (ie return the whole thing for a refund). You do not have to accept a repair and if DFS tell you anything different, remind them its a criminal offence to mislead consumers about their statutory rights.

You could say that you'd be willing to reconsider the rejection if they replace the damaged cushion.
But Unholyangel, only a week ago you were telling us that 'dirty marks won't make the goods not conform to contract'.

Ok, we don't yet actually know whether the marks on this cushion can be easily removed, but your later explanation in this post last Saturday seems to suggest that it is a bit premature for this DFS customer to reject the goods as not conforming to contract.

What I said was dirty marks that can be easily removed.

Chucking a sweater in a washing machine and it coming out clean = easily removed. Requiring specialist cleaning = not easily removed.

So if this 'upholsterer' that is sent out wipes a damp cloth over the cushion and the 'big black dirty mark' disappears, then the goods do conform to contract and cannot be rejected (for that reason).

We don't yet know whether the thing requires 'specialist cleaning' or not.

All I said was that it was perhaps a bit premature to suggest that the goods could be rejected at this stage.

I imagine if that was likely, DFS would have suggested removing the cushion cover and putting it in the washing machine rather than going through the expense of sending a specialist cleaner out.

Either way, we'll likely never know given OP had already done what I suggested before I suggested it and DFS are sending a new cushion.

However I will say you've highlighted why you can't take advice given in one situation and apply it to another without an understanding of the nuances involved. After all, its not like a sofa can be put in the washing machine after each use - while clothes can (and are).
