Loft insulation cost

Hiya,

I recently bought some rockwool loft insulation on Wickes 3 for 2 offer. (works out at about £15 per roll).

Anyway, I was speaking to a friend who said that if I'm going to buy any more rockwool that I should wait until summer when prices will drop to 'a couple of pounds per roll because no-one insulates their roof in summer'.

Is this true? I do need to buy a little more insulation but I thought cheap loft insulation was generally now a thing of the past?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Z

It's been heavily subsidised in the past to enable power suppliers to attain targets

Yes it usually does go on sale in B&Q during the summer, just a few quid off, but your friend is right, it's bloody hot work insulating the roof in summer

Buy it in summer and throw it in the garage until it's a cool day.

We had our 3 lofts insulated in 2016 for free, and being a large bungalow it used a lot of material! We'd taken the old stuff out to replace all the ceilings and re-wire etc.

My wife responded to a leaflet drop. I was highly sceptical and assumed it would be a scam, but I was wrong. :o Chaps were really good, as was the surveying guy, who had to check before and after.

Thanks - just had a look at mine (Avro) and can’t see anything. Which is a shame. Maybe that’s why they’re a little cheaper than the big 5!!

Do you know how much, roughly? Cheaper than £15 a roll (7m x1m-ish? 170mm?) I wouldn’t mind paying a couple of quid extra now but if it goes down to £5 a roll then I’ll hang on!

Great thanks for the link. I already have cavity wall insulation and 110m down in my loft but I’m not sure how effective the cavity wall insulation is - I’ll give the EST a ring on Monday to see if they can offer anything. :)

Living in a fairly exposed place, I wouldn't choose to have cavity insulation, but it was already in the bungalow's walls when we purchased.

It hasn't given us any problems, however, and this is now a very economical property to heat.

We Freecycled all our old insulation, which was taken by people whose landlords had done nothing in the loft. Luckily, we had the means to transport it to the peoplewho wanted it.

Why not spend the money now and save on your heating bills, the savings on gas/electric might be the same as the savings on insulation if they do discount it:rotfl:

Haha good point. I’m just not in any hurry to spend any more money this month unless I have to! :)
