Primera Air cancelled my return flight

I received an email yesterday which at first I thought was spam. Turns out it was a genuine email from Primera Air.
I've got return flights booked to New York and they have cancelled my flight on the return journey. They have offered me a total refund or I can fly back to a different airport, 100 miles away and they will pay my transport costs.
Can they do this? There is a flight the day after from to local airport (the original airport on my booking) which I would be happy to take instead but I have not been offered this option (it is more expensive).
What are my rights?

options are likely to be another Primeair flight or refund. Have a look at their website and see what you can find better
No compensation as you have been given more than 14 days notice and not likely to book you on another airline (although you could take refund and rebook yourself)
These transatlantic routes have not started, the aircraft are currently on order and they may be tweaking timetables due delays in aircraft arriving0 -
Thanks for that. I didn't know that they were taking delivery of new aircraft. Customer service is not very good as I have received an email saying your flight has been cancelled, please contact us by email.
When I spoke to customer service, they said I can return to a different airport or have a full refund but it may have been nice if they had put this in their email advising of the cancellation.0 -
Flying the next day should be acceptable to them.0
