£97 in Aldi plus £4 taxi. We basically have an incredibly inefficient shopping system which wastes both time and money. I go to Aldi and buy a proper load of food based on a list and a plan. He fancies something different so goes and buys it. Without exaggeration he goes to MrS a minimum of 10 times a week! Have told my husband that if he sets foot in a supermarket before next Friday to do even the tiniest of tiny top up shops I'll be washing my hands of everything food related in this house for good. He has been warned!

    Thanks beanielou!

£35 earned this morning via online tuition and DH is at work for the day now.

Joiner here redoing the floor. Making our way through the snags list - nearly there! We started this build in November, it's a good job I'm patient!

Yay and double yay!!! Courgette AND toots are back!

Have subscribed to your new diary and will be cheering you on. Sounds like you're really focused (nothing like an unfinished building project to focus the mind, I guess!)

I also spent £95 on food shopping today, and that was at L!dl! It didn't feel like a big shop but I didn't have a solid meal plan, so that will teach me!

Awwww, what a lovely bunch you lot are!

Yesterday turned into a bit of a non-day. I just can't stand these grey days and I always feel a bit flat this time of year. We're car-free pretty much through choice but sometimes I miss the freedom. I've had 3 cars stolen plus one demolished and written off in the street which I know is a very freakish stroke of bad luck. The area we live in is fine, it's just been a weird run for me that's put me off car ownership for life. My last car was stolen from the garage when it was in for a routine repair and 18 months on the insurance companies are still squabbling over whose fault it is (apparently not the guy arrested running away from my written off car and now in prison).

Anyway, upshot is that on weekends like this we have been getting a bit housebound. No one can be bothered to trudge to the bus stop, I can't be bothered to carry a zillion changes of clothes plus food and warm drinks etc so we just stay at home.

I'm going to tackle this because it isn't doing any of us any good. I'll dig my granny trolley back out and repair the fastener and I'll perhaps start using taxis more. The sad thing is that even though I feel I'm leading a more environmentally conscious life being car-free, I actually see far less of the countryside and I miss it.

Electrician coming round this morning then will get us out. Need to go back to Aldi to collect DS3's digger which he left there on Friday. DS2 has asked whether he can do the junior total warrior this summer so I've downloaded the C25K plan. Hmmmm, not sure about this one :)

  • Depending on where you live, have you thought about going in a car club scheme? Usually they are in big cities, so it might count you out. But the cars are left in designated places, you hire for a certain amount of time and then return to where you found it.

Also, looking on groupon and cashback sites etc might get you a standard car hire car for a reasonable amount. Some places, that cater for the business market do 3 day!!!8217;s for the price of 1 or four for the price of two over weekends.

Might not be an option, but just a thought.
