    I've always had problems trying to boot from USB sticks. Just burn a CD.

    This is why it's always pertinent to name the brand name and model in the first instance. Saves wasting people's time following false leads.
    Yet you still have not.

    If it's the Latitude D620, you need to turn on USB Emulation via the BIOS set-up beforehand.
    But why should we need to guess?

    MY COMPUTER that has NOT GOT A CD RBURNER is an INTEL NUC R513

    the laptop that dated from 2006 was a sony brand and has now gone back to its owner

    Is there any reason why you are shouting?

    This is what you wrote earlier;
    ok , awaiting rain to stop and delivery of the thing , he has got the game instll discs , and its a dell , and I have just found a dell install disk (win 7) , but hopefully it will be quicker to reset p/word

    So it morphed from a "dell" to a "sony".

    I have to say that the impediment to sorting the problem out was you. Your postings quite confused and a total lack of detail.

    After all, do you think anyone would know to which car you were referring if you told it were a Ford?

    Next time, full details of the machines involved and you'll get accurate advice.
    Save us from having to guess and you from going down to the pub too often.
