Bush Smart TV issues

I have a Bush Smart TV. Yesterday, when I tried to access the SMART TV functions it displayed a "server error" screen. Today, my wife just got a blank screen.

After power cycling it, I briefly got the "Smart TV" screen and a message saying "this application is being updated. Please try again later." The next time I tried, I was back to the blank screen.

I'm hoping it will update and sort itself out soon.

  • How long have you had this TV?

You realise that SMART functions are not covered by any guarantee and that TV manufacturers across the board stop supporting these functions just a few years after purchase?

It's unlikely there will ever be any new updates unless your TV was purchased less than twelve months ago...

Is the TV still connected to the internet?

It's a relatively new TV. About a year old, I think.

When I bought it I wasn't planning to use the Smart TV functions, then after a while I bought a USB wifi adapter so we could have iPlayer in the kitchen.

With hindsight, I should have spent a little more and bought a Roku stick.

You can get a Roku for £30 or a NOW TV box for abut half that. The Roku will give you more choice. Both will have BBC iPlayer.

It has a dedicated button for YouTube, which was still working, so it wasn't an internet problem. Based on the first error I got having been a "server error" I am guessing there is a dedicated "Smart TV" portal out there, which was unreachable for some reason.

We have definitely lost the ITV Hub from our 2 year old Panasonic, now. The icon shows in grey now.

You can still watch by pc or phone but it's a nuisance having to fiddle about instead of just pressing a couple of buttons.

I was thinking of updating the old Humax to a 5000 model with Freeplay and HD capability, but our tv screen is a borderline size for detecting HD content and ITV are making rumblings about cutting other services (and charging both Virgin and Sky for free to view content), so a new Humax may be of little benefit compared to the current one used with smart tv, in two more years' time.

Have you tried it through the built in browser? It probably wouldn't work but wouldn't hurt to try.

I guess they're trying to recoup some of the costs of their failing attempts to get in to PAYG live sports via boxing.

The new Now TV stick is just £15 and could be a very cheap way to replace ITV hub, etc. You don't get HD for that price. A proper HD Roku stick probably won't be that much more.

A HD Roku stick is around £70.

I can find one for just over half that price with very little effort.
