Bowing out. Had hoped for some help but nothing new here

was reluctant to post as in my experience along with occasional good advice this forum is full of know alls waiting to catch people out - once again should have listened to my instincts

The responses you received were polite and considered and gave good advice. It would seem like common sense to me not to unnecessarily alienate a tradesman who has £2000 of yours in his back pocket.

Telling him you know of his past issues gives him no incentive at all to finish the job or to buy the goods you have purchased upfront. People who point this out are not "know it alls" they can just see that one course of action is very obviously unwise. I imagine you can see it now too, which is why you have reacted so angrily to those who have posted.

You didn’t need anyone on here to catch you out, you did that to yourself. Twice.

Perhaps next time you ask for help, tell people what answers you want to hear. That way, people wouldn’t waste their time giving you accurate and honest advice and you’d get the confirmation you want to shore up your belief in your actions.

If you'd asked in advance whether you should send him a letter/email mentioning the bad reviews you'd found, you would have been advised by people on here not to do it. There's no helping some people.
