That would not be grounds to reject a white gold ring, they will always discolour and depending on the person wearing it annual replating is not unreasonable.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

It may not be so unreasonable as to suggest that the OP would never want to use EJ for replating in the future not necessarily because of the quality of the plating but the fact that they can't give a guarantee that they wont lose it again.
They don't always discolour,I have several that have not required replating in 30 years admittedly they must have a thicker plating than EJ supply but personally I feel that annual replating to keep a ring looking good is quite an excessive and additional expense over the lifetime of a ring.
maybe the OP should consider upgrading to a platinum band and setting as whilst it seems a little more expensive in the beginning,it will never need dippingin S 38 T 2 F 50

Regarding superstition: My engagement ring (now too small) was secondhand ,but we are still married after more than 45 years.0

That's the whole thing about superstitions if you subscribe to them you are unlikely to change your mind or be persuaded otherwise.
Each to their own,but what a good thread topic it would make

That's why I said 'depending on the person' for some people the plating will not last as long due to the oiliness, moistness, acidity of their skin, they type on environment they work in, whether they bathe in it etc.,
As for using EJ for replating, there is no obligation to do so, it can be taken to any jewellers, preferably an independent.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Thanks for all of the responses/advice EJ are finally doing the right thing after I spoke to them. People make mistakes we all do it’s how it’s handled yes we do have the original certificate pictures etc... they have offered a replacement and a couple of other options which may be acceptable they are sourcing a similar ring but not inferior in quality and one with a larger diamond but slightly different and she can choose what she wants to do otherwise they will make a ring with a larger stone by way of apology but it will take longer to source. The reason I posted was my fianc!e was getting nowhere and I was curious as to where we stood before I contacted them so fingers crossed (more superstition) it will be resolved as soon as possible now I’ll post when resolved thanks again for all comments and advice0

Avoid EJ and other chains (ho ho) and stick with your local or not quite so local independent jeweller.0

Well EJ certainly came up trumps in the end! Excellent customer service, very apologetic and a replacement (platinum so it doesn't have to ever be sent away again) and a slightly larger but exactly the same type of diamond ring was delivered yesterday! Thanks for everyone's input and well done Ernest Jones it was a shocking mistake but well recovered.0
