    Workplace Relationship

This study is interested in workplace relationship. The current study takes about 10 minutes to complete. In the study, you will be asked to do a role-playing simulation and answer some questions about the simulation.

Another Six O'clock catch but this time Sunday morning, lucky I'm up early!

Took longer than the 'about 10 minutes to complete' figure given by the researcher, in fact took a fair bit longer.

This was mainly due to the free text boxes and one of the numerous videos that you had to watch and listen to was very low on the audio front and I listened a few time (with headphones) to try and hear everything being said.

Never mind it all goes into my curry fund :)

The AI studies are the best - I have had a couple not go beyond the first one or two responses and they always pay out. I got that £14 myself this morning - very happy as Sunday is usually very quiet.

Lucky you, I saw one appear this morning but I was changing a watch battery at the time so did not notice until all the places were gone.

Never mind I'm sure there will be other opportunities :)
  • Just had a very frustrating chat with an AI. It gave me information that was the precise opposite of the truth, and twice doubled down on it when I tried to tell it that it was wrong, before giving the correct information and pretending that was what it had said all along. It also sent me two links to support its info, which I think it had plucked out of its a**e - the first one didn't work at all, and the second was completely irrelevant to the subject. And it ended by trying to excuse itself for making errors on the grounds of being human. All this took the best part of an hour. I reckon I earned my £14 for that one.

You may find you get a bonus in a few days.  I did when I challenged an AI that was most insistent on incorrect data!

Talk with an AI about any topic

In this study you will be asked to have a conversation with an AI about any topic.

The conversation should contain approximately 15 messages from the AI.

Every time you send a message, the AI will reply with two messages - please click on the message you like the most.

Eventually after much clicking I got a place on this study, but initially kept getting an error message on the first question to the AI so did not receive a reply, just a message asking me to contact the administrator.

I cleared the page cookies and closed the study and tried again four more times before any progress was made with the conversation.

I was about half way through when the error message occurred again, this time I was presented with the 'complete study' button and an apology for the error.

I was paid in full immediately, which is good but would have been quite happy to continue the conversation all the way to the end, as it was fascinating to see the development of AI technology like this.

  • I've noticed that on the AI ones where you're given a choice of 5 topics to talk about, pressing F5 to refresh the page changes the subjects in the list, which is handy as sometimes you get a list of really specific subjects that I'd have problems writing 2 messages about, never mind 15.

Tonight I had a new variation on the AI studies, called 'Review Conversations with an AI'. It's similar to the ones where you rate messages from an existing conversation (by ticking boxes about how friendly, reassuring it was etc)  but in this version you have to decide how truthful each AI response was. It pays £5 (+possible bonus) and takes about 20 minutes so is quite well paid like most of the others.

I have had an unusual experience this evening.  I successfully completed an 'AI' Study this evening and it was approved immediately.  The approved submission did not appear on my Prolific Account and I received an email within minutes saying that I had received a payment. - I had to click a link to claim my payment.

I logged into PayPal and the payment was there.  Since it was over £5 I transferred the payment to my bank.

I don't know what to make of this.  (I have since received a "Response approved" about another Study - in the normal way. ) It seems a bit strange and I don't know what to make of this.  Does anyone know what would cause this?

That's really weird and whilst I can only speculate, it's really unusual. I am aware that Prolific have been working quite closely with this researcher (as you probably know, they've been publishing a great deal of studies so probably a significant client for Prolific). I wonder if they have allowed them to pay you directly rather than going through Prolific? Of course, that sets alarm bells ringing that at least your PayPal email address has been passed over without explicit consent. I don't know the Prolific Ts&Cs off the top of my head, so I couldn't say whether or not they're allowed to do this. I would imagine not.

Did you receive the "Claim your payment" email on Prolific or your personal email?

I suppose in summary : whilst unlikely, and pure speculation on my part, I wonder if Prolific have given participant PayPal emails to this researcher to facilitate direct payment. Either that, or something just plain odd \ weird \ Prolific back-end tinkering happened.

I get these AI studies quite regularly - no complaints in the run-up to the festive period - so I will keep an eye out and report back if I observe the same. It may be worth logging a Prolific support ticket as well, if you haven't already.
  • Anybody get the Market Experiment one?  I thought I was quite intelligent, but I got very confused by the instructions and failed the experiment questions!
