    Decision-making study: £1.90 for ~15 mins + BONUS of £0.00-£8.96

Just wondering if anyone did this one and actually understood it. One of the most confusing sets of instructions I've ever seen in a study. You had to give a certain number of points to someone who had done the study before you, whilst giving other points to someone coming two places after you, whilst meanwhile getting points from the people two places before you and after you (I may have got this wrong), all multiplied by various amounts, whilst meanwhile there was a 20% chance there'd be no-one after you, and here's what the previous three people did but tabulated in a confusing way, and btw, how socially acceptable would it be to give various numbers of points? I was totally lost, didn't really understand what I was doing or being told and had no clue how to judge whether it was "socially acceptable" or not. I got a £2.04 bonus, though (plus possibly more later depending on something I didn't really grasp about how other people answer the questions), so I guess it was worthwhile, for me at least.

Yes, olliebean, I really struggled with this Study yesterday.  Here's my reply but, as you see, others did really well:

"You did very much better than me, yupiteru, although my bonus (to be paid in 6-8 weeks of completing the study) is £1.40.  I really struggled to get to grips with the instructions but was pleased to persevere to completion without being timed out.  In total it took me 43 minutes - so much slower than the suggested 15 minutes and more than double the time it took you, yupiteru."

Although I persevered to completion after 43 minutes, I did my best but never really fully understood the instructions.

How long, in total, did it take for you to complete the Study, olliebean?

I forget exactly but it was in line with the average completion time (i.e., 17-18 minutes). It would have taken me longer had I made more of an effort to understand it, but I figured, given the researcher's estimated completion time of 15 minutes, that I was making an effort commensurate with (or indeed slightly in excess of) the expectations of the researcher, so I didn't especially put myself out.

It's disappointing, clearancer, but please don't be discouraged.  If if was a genuine error (and the Researcher is not being unfair) then, from my own experience, it helps, going forward, to encourage being a bit more vigilant.

Your next 'submission approved' Study will give you a boost.  All the best!

It is certainly a disappointing experience and I have 3 rejections if I remember correctly.  The last rejection I had I politely asked the researcher if they would let me return the study instead and they agreed.

Maybe you could consider making the same request as they can only say no (or ignore you).

A brief survey of your opinions

I have seen a lot of these short low paid studies lately, unfortunately.  However I do not turn them down if at all possible, as obviously it increases the number of approved studies completed if successful, so that a rejection has less of an impact.

I completed a similar one from the same researcher on the 6th of August and was paid pretty quickly, unlike some researchers who seem to keep me hanging on to the bitter end.  I have £20 pending at the moment

A service robot is asked to cross a street

    By Magnus Söderlund

Sorry, but I kept getting the giggles doing this one, waiting for the punchline.  I don't think they have "why did the chicken..." jokes where Magnus comes from!

Plus I was genuinely worried for the poor robot's safety!

Investigating consumer perceptions for cosmetics/personal care products

If you decide to take part, you will be presented with information about cosmetics/personal care products and will be asked to provide a series of ratings. You will also be asked some demographic information and to fill out two short personality measures.

Many of the products in question were not relative to me but it worked out OK.  Timing was pretty accurate and I was paid very quickly after submission, so when added to my weekly cash out, I had enough for bottle of Rioja to go with my Indian takeaway.

Did anyone do this one? I thought it was pretty clear from the beginning it was one of those ‘pretend you’re making decisions with another participant who is actually a computer’ ones.
