I reported one (via the chatbot) the other day from our Chinese friend, which was responded to in less than 48 hours.

The thought did enter my mind to use the chatbot, but when I checked there was no chatbot on the home screen today for me to use.

Thanks for advising that it works and I will try that in the future (when it re-appears) as I have never had a reply from the 'report study' button and the 'Submit a request' page is a bit long winded for this type of thing.

It's a struggle - you have to convince it that it cannot help on its own, and then it will allow you to send a message to a human.

OK thanks I will keep that in mind.  Can you see the chatbot today?  Maybe it is my computer but it was on the bottom right hand side, I am sure?

Maybe it gets the weekend off, you know, equal rights to AI and all that sort of thing?

It is the speech bubble at the bottom right-hand corner of every page, for me on Firefox.

Yes I have seen it before but it is not there today, I am on Firefox as well (Firefox 102).  That's strange I wonder why I cant see it and you can, I haven't changed anything my end that I am aware of.

    I will investigate further..........

Edit - it is there on Chrome but not on Firefox, that is weird.

Well that is odd, the chatbot is not visible (but it was!) on Firefox 102.0 which is my main browser, but it is there on Chrome and I just fired up an old version of Firefox (version 88) which I also have installed and it is visible on there as well!

    I will investigate further...........

I am on Firefox 102.0 (64-bit) and it is there for me, so that is definitely weird!  What happens if you click where it ought to be (just less than an inch from the corner)?  In this forum, for instance, if you edit a post more than once the gearwheel which you click to get into edit mode disappears, but if you click where it ought to be then the functionality is there all the same.  I just wondered whether the Prolific chatbot might do the same!

Problem solved, I had installed an add on to Firefox 102 called 'I don't care about cookies' which removes the cookie consent box from websites and so the need to tick the box each time.

This was for some strange reason also removing the chatbot.  I have added Prolific to the whitelist and now the chatbot is visible again.

Odd thing is that I have had this add on installed for about a year probably and definitely remember seeing the chatbot since then.

I can only assume that some kind of update to the add on or to Prolific caused the situation.

Oh well, at least the solution may be useful for others with this add on or something similar.

Thanks for your help, I initially did try clicking in the corner on the Prolific site but nothing was happening.

    Uncertainty (Part 1 - Baseline)

    By unimelb.edu.au

    £3.50 • £9.16/hr

    22 mins

    100 places

Hello participants! Welcome to the first day of the Emotional Responses to Uncertainty study.

This study involves a 30-minute baseline questionnaire followed by short daily surveys (each evening) over the next 14 days. Before the daily surveys begin tomorrow, please take the time today to complete this Baseline survey. In this baseline survey, we will ask you questions about a broad range of topics, including emotional experience, emotion regulation, emotion beliefs, uncertainty, general affect, wellbeing, personality, and demographics. This survey should take approximately 30 minutes. You’ll receive up to £15.30 for participating in the whole study: £3.50 for completing this online baseline session (if you complete only part of this session or complete it inattentively, you will not be paid or invited to complete the smartphone surveys), and up to £11.80 for completing all 14 daily surveys. You will be paid £0.70 for each daily survey you complete, with a bonus £2.00 payment if you complete 13/14 surveys. The total time commitment is estimated to be no more than 2 hours over 14 days. Within 2.5 months after completing the study, you may be contacted for a brief follow-up survey for an additional £1. You will receive payment via Prolific within 48 hours of completing each survey.

According to the stopwatch it took me 40 mins to complete this part without any breaks but I tend to be slower than the average most of the time.

There are daily responses that have to be completed with a smartphone, which I assume will be through an app?

Despite having a decent enough modern phone, I have not had a good experience completing studies this way in the past and have ended my participation early.

I will have to wait until Monday and see how it goes.

You Perceptions of Different Groups in UK Society

The purpose of this study is to understand people’s thoughts and feelings about different social groups in UK society.

Completed this and then a short while afterwards another study from the same researcher popped up.

Apparently they had omitted an important question from the original study and requested participants complete this short study and answer the missing question.

I can sympathise here as this is exactly the sort of thing I would do and in fact have been guilty of in my work in the past.
