  • Hi guys, I need to register an account on an app, which I had to download to my phone in order to take part in the study. It is asking for my prolific email address. I have only ever seen it on the prolific page when you are about to proceed in a study. It's below your prolific id on that page. I have looked on my account page and only your id is listed there. I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how to find it out, other than waiting for a new study to come in, or asking prolific who I doubt will answer at night?
  • It's not on the messages page either.

It should be <your prolific id>@email.prolific.co
  • Thanks so much olliebean. Do you mean literally the word 'email' after the @?
  • It worked. Thanks again Ollibean.

    Did anyone else do

Play the Grouping Game by haas.berkeley.edu on either the 2nd or 3rd December and time out? The description says 30 minutes but if you hover over then it says they've estimated it to Prolific as 10 minutes so it looks as if everyone has timed out.

    Average completion time 44 minutes
    Estimated completion time 10 minutes
    Maximum allowed time 44 minutes.

I've messaged them and will contact Prolific if no joy. The annoying thing is that I had a $8 bonus coming too.

Did anyone else have a problem with this one? There were no explicit attention checks that I can recall, and I completed the study in good faith - the main part involved guessing the percentage of orange dots in a box full of orange and blue dots - but was told at the end that I'd failed attention checks. I suspect they've just decided that anyone who didn't reach a certain level of accuracy in the task can't have been paying attention, but that doesn't seem fair as I might have just not been very good at the task.
Anyway I've told Prolific and also messaged the researcher, and we'll see what happens.
I've now received a reply from the researcher, explaining the attention checks and asking that I return my submission so as not to have it rejected. I have replied, explaining at some length why I believe these attention checks were unfair (and linking to the relevant page in Prolific's Best Practice Guide), and threatening to escalate it to Prolific. So we shall see what happens next.

I’ve had the same message and will be relying later today,
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I received the same message from the Researcher and I replied confirming that I think the attention checks were unfair.  I'll be interested to see what the outcome is.

When I did it the attention check questions had a big red exclamation mark to alert you to the question being different.  Of course that might mean it was added subsequent to your complaint, which could be a good sign.
