Questions on switching mobile networks

Hello! I currently have a mobile phone contract on EE with about 35 days to run. I have a phone I'm happy to keep that I purchased Sim-only and unlocked. As a Sky TV customer I'm tempted by their current offer of double data and call/texts for free (£10 a month for 2GB with calls/texts.) EE is almost twice the price for the equivalent tariff. I have read on EE's website that there is a 30 day notice period for cancellation, even when not in contract anymore.
I have a some questions related to the timing on my transfer. Am I able to notify EE 30 days before my contract ends that I wish to cancel the contract when it reaches the end and obtain my PAC code? Or do I have to wait till the contract is officially finished before making this request?
When should I open my new account with Sky Mobile? Do I open the account at the same time as requesting to leave EE, and then let the mobile operators workout the switch over date? Will I end up double paying during that 30 day notice period?
Many thanks,
James

James you might like to consider this. Virgin have a special offer on now, it gives 5 Gigs for £9 per month. They actually use the EE network. Quite a good deal. But you would have to hurry, the offer ends on the last day of January. You should give notice now and get your PAC code.0

1) It hasn't come to an end and won't until you either:-
A) Give 30 days' notice to end the (continuing) contract, orObtain a PAC and exercise it within 30 days with the new network.
If you wait until near the end of the 30 days before contracting with asomeone else there won't be much double-charging. If you wait until then the other provider may not have the same offer.0 -
Hi , have you checked whether taking this sky mobile offer ties you into you sky TV/broadband account for the period of the mobile account ( that is: if you leave sky TV/broadband the mobile deal reverts to the full price ) ?
Three have some good SIM only prices...I recently got unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 8gb of data for £10.0 -
It's best not to sign up with a new provider before you call EE for your PAC, because they will ask what you will be moving to and when you tell them they are likely to offer you a similar or perhaps better deal if you stay with them.
There's no need to decide right away if they do, you can take the PAC and either use it within the thirty days, which terminates the EE service, or call back and accept the deal.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Thanks for all of the replies!
I do like the Sky deal and have no plans to leave the TV/Broadband offering.
Looks like I should call EE first though before signing up to anything with Sky.0
