Scored 8/8 but also had doubts about "you will receive a text from..."
Taking that question as two questions, I would not trust the first part because it's an unfamiliar number, and because whenever I receive a text from a bank, it's always headed with the bank's name, not a mobile number.
I'd trust the second part because I've seen similar from Santander and because replying to a text with a Y or N would not give access to my account.
That was my reasoning too, but it was the one I had the most doubt about.0 -
Ha! I got 6/8 because I wrongly said 2 of the texts were fraudulent when they weren't. Still I'd rather be over cautious than t'other way!
I don't give my bank my mobile phone number anyway (it's purely for emergencies like phone the AA!)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I logged that one as fraudulent because telling me what number they'd text from is meaningless and nowhere near secure. Why would that number be reliable?? They could still be a fraudster and the text from xxx might well be fishing for information in some way. I've never had a message from a bank saying they will text me from another number - and would not trust it if they did.
A poor question imho - which made me doubt the effectiveness of the whole questionnaire.
Actually, that is very similar to what barclaycard actually use. They also ask for you birthday from what I remember. Egg credit card used to do the same. It is daft, but real.0 -
Another thanks for sharing. I too got 8/8 but like most others did wonder about the "we will text from number nnnnn" question.0

Interesting test - thanks.
I got 8/8, husband got 7/8. Like others he thought the 'we will text you from...' was fraudulent.
I expect most of the regular posters on here are more 'fraud savvy' than joe public though.0 -
The only ones I had to read twice were the genuine ones, just to be sure.
Got 'em all right0 -

Being cautious in the case of one of the emails can cause you more grief. The one text from the bank - the one with the "Do your recognise this transation Y/N" from a Hutchinson Telecom number is REALLY what the actual message looks like when they think you've been scammed (IIRC this is the one from Mastercard - but maybe visa).
Its this one:

If you choose to be cautious and do nothing you've ignored the protection the bank is offering to you. It's a massive shame this service itself looks like a scam text! - and when you google the number like most people do you mostly see misguided people saying its a Scam, when its not.
It's this number 07480357009
When you reply back to say N to mean you dont recognise the transaction, the bank fraud department will ring you back (usually very soon). if you want to be 100% certain you are not falling for a scam don't reply - just call the number on the card and ask for the fraud department, and tell them you had the text. They will walk through the same process, which rolls-back any unknown pending transactions, cancels your card and orders a new one.0 -

Scored 7/8. Texts on question six are apparently genuine but there is no way that I would reply to a random text with either Y or N.0

The test has since been covered by ITV news: https://www.itv.com/news/2018-01-25/would-you-know-if-you-were-being-scammed/0
