Test your fraud detection skills

This link came up in a FB post from an ex-banking colleague today, to test your ability to determine if a message claiming to be from your bank is genuine or not. I got all 8 right, as I hope most of the regulars on this board would, but I thought it was quite a tough test.

Interesting test, thanks for sharing.
I also got all 8 right. The question 'We will text you from xxx' did make me think, but I went for the correct answer as it wasn't asking for any personal details.0 -

I logged that one as fraudulent because telling me what number they'd text from is meaningless and nowhere near secure. Why would that number be reliable?? They could still be a fraudster and the text from xxx might well be fishing for information in some way. I've never had a message from a bank saying they will text me from another number - and would not trust it if they did.
A poor question imho - which made me doubt the effectiveness of the whole questionnaire.0 -
If you just click on the link in agrinnall's post without thinking about it does that mean you've failed the test before you've even started?"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0

Couldn't agree more. I also got that one "wrong". I would not trust a message like that.0 -

I'd still have called the bank and asked them what was going on though... I'm a natural born sceptic"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -

I did wonder if anyone would think that. It came from somebody that I trust which is why I clicked on it in the first place, but almost nobody on here actually knows me (although hopefully my posting record gives me some credentials).

My husband found that test online (not FB) and I did it.
Got one wrong, but it was one where it was genuine and I thought it was fraudulent ( I’m very cynical and seldom trust any messages I receive!)
A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -
Scored 8/8 but also had doubts about "you will receive a text from..."
Taking that question as two questions, I would not trust the first part because it's an unfamiliar number, and because whenever I receive a text from a bank, it's always headed with the bank's name, not a mobile number.
I'd trust the second part because I've seen similar from Santander and because replying to a text with a Y or N would not give access to my account.0 -
Good test. First thing I've seen in a long time worth sharing with people.0
