Accountant lost bank statements

Hi
My accountant has lost a years worth of bank statements - I think they have sent them to the incorrect address but wont admit it.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do re data protection? I want to write a complaint letter but no idea where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Kimberley

    Private, self employed

So it is business, as a self employed person you would be classed as a business.

Data protection regulation is handled by the Information Commisioner's Office, and if your relationship with your accountant is something that is within their remit then that's where you would write. However, given that you have a contract with the accountant you may find it easier to seek redress through the terms of the contract (and possibly also via any professional body that the accountant belongs to).

Any evidence for that? What's their explanation for the missing paperwork?

Parent's accountant mislaid some and it reappeared a while later still in the office but misfiled.

The OP doesn't know that this isn't what has happened as she appears to be surmising that the accountant has posted to them to the wrong address.

Also important - is this connected to a certain self-assessment deadline that is next week? Best check your return is filed correctly...
