Yesterday afternoon I bunged some clothes in to the washing machine. With in less than 2 mins I realised my phone was in my jeans pocket.

Got the phone out. it worked to start with then started cutting out. I can charge it and turn it on and what is on the screen briefly flashes up.

How long should I leave it to dry out before I have to go sod it its bust?

Really annoyed with myself only had it 7 months on a 24 month contract so still have to pay for it.

Don't charge it, don't switch it on.
Put it in rice and somewhere warm for about a week and see what's what after that.
Because of the powder, etc. that's in the machine it may have had it anyway due to reside once the water dries

  • It's probably bust, I'm afraid. Have you got insurance? Might be able to claim on home insurance or with packaged bank account.

I am so annoyed at myself.

Not sure its worth claiming on home insurance as it will just make it go up next year.

Oh well. Off to search for a cheapie smart phone. Very annoying as I have photos and such like on there. And all my contacts as well.

if set up correctly photos and contacts should be linked to your account (google, apple, phone manufacturer) so should still be available on new phone

Our grandson left DH's phone in the garden all night and it chucked it down all night. When I found it the water just poured out of it. I shook out all I could and tucked it under the hot tank cover. A week later it turned on and worked. No sound so as couldn't make a call but it meant we could retrieve contacts and photos

    It's worth a try

Another friend left hers in the wash, she done the same, tucked it away in the airing cupboard and forgot about it. Found it recently and also managed to retrieve her photos

What model of phone is it? If it runs Android or iOS then in all likelihood your contacts and photos will already be backed up in the "cloud"; so when you set up a new phone to the same account then the contacts and photos will also sync. :)

The trick - and i know this isnt going to help the o/p now - is to not switch it on until its been thoroughly dried out. Otherwise you're just short circuiting the board.
