O/S Daily Wednesday 24 January 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was HM egg and veg fried rice with breaded chicken portions, LO gateau and cream or ice cream for dessert. Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg and tomorrow we'll be having beef casserole, mash, veg, and LO veg.

Work yesterday was ok, busy at times, we had a couple of really tricky cases. 1 of which I think will re-appear today and the outcome of which may not be to the customer's liking.

I called in on my parents last night and they seem to be ok, she wasn't too muddled so she recognised me and we had some coherent 2 way conversation. I'll be going on Friday afternoon to sit with her so dad can go and do the food shopping, it's likely other than when mum came home on Monday he won't have left the house, still very early days yet.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

My routines and plans and goals have been on the backburner. Master tru has moved out so miss tru has moved into his old room. The cleaning, rearranging then rearranging again seemed to take over, but now everything's pretty much where it should be. I have a couple of bits of furniture which, with an old tabletop balanced on them, should make a temporary desk til I find exactly what I'm looking for. I now have a spare room. I HAVE A SPARE ROOM! Quite excited about this even though I have no idea what to do with it :D

I've managed to get the annoying jobs out of the way – tax stuff and pension stuff. And Scampi's booster appointment – vet know how nervous he is (it's in his notes) so armed himself wth treats. Scampi backed off with tail between legs and bared his teeth, I stepped in and calmed him down (honestly takes five seconds when you know what he responds to), vet thought he was now OK so marched towards him, holding treats out in front of him. Scampi snarled and lost his temper (imagine the tasmanian devil!) and now hates that vet. Next time I'll try and book him in with the one he saw for his previous booster, he was a bit wary of him but stayed calm and let him do his job.

I have a couple of things I need to catch up with, next week should see me back on track and making progress :D

    Morning everyone :hello:

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Hi tru, it’s good to see you posting.

Hester I’m really sorry to hear about your eyes.

I’ve got a nice treat today. My neighbour is taking me out for lunch. We are going somewhere I haven’t been for a year because it is in a village that is difficult to get to if you don’t drive. She is also getting us a taxi there and back. I’m really looking forward to it.

As I’m going out I shall just have a quick dust and vacuum through this morning. I don’t want to do too much and spoil it for myself by feeling tired.

Last summer a couple who live over the road had some really bad arguments which spilled into the road, with him throwing her clothes out of the windows and locking the doors, and a lot of shouting. Things had settled down but it all started up again yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately this was just at the children from the local primary school were coming out and walking past. I hope this isn’t the start of things to come, it is usually so quiet around here.

Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is and those with troubles/worries.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning All

Good to hear from you tru - a spare room? Hooray! Poor Scampi.
Glad your DM is a bit better nmlc, it's a lot for your Dad, does he have any helpers coming in?
Sounds like you had a good day at the Graduation Tiredmum.

It's blowing a gale outside, so much 'weather' about at the moment. The roads will be quite flooded so I had better leave early for work. I actually saw the grass in the garden yesterday, it has been covered in snow and frost for weeks.

Not much to report, everything ticking along quite nicely, hope it is for you too. Take care. XX
  • Morning all, a quick post from me before I start getting ready for the day. I have to go to a conference, in Dudley, where I used to live and work. It is very different now, all redeveloped and I'm not sure that I'd find my way around I do occasionally go back, I like the place.

,Last night's concert was brilliant, Joshua Bell and musicians from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Vivaldi, Beethoven and a good piece of modern classical, the name of the composer has fluttered from my mind but good. We had really goid seats, it is a great venue for seeing and hearing everything. Massive but it doesn't seem so. Bumped into a former colleague while waiting for my friends and she and her OH had free tickets so must investigate this app she uses. They were 3 rows behind us, still amazing view and we paid £45 each for our seats. Worth the money but free tickets would be nice!
Have not slept much, despite a busy day and evening AND a glass of wine so I bet I'll be digging my nails into my leg at some point to stay awake. Please let it be interactive rather than a day of sitting and listening...
Hooe everyone has a good day and hope Scampi isn't too traumatised
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Very windy here and raining again :( its every day atm and nothing is getting time to dry out. Off to work for me I have really enjoyed my days off just pottering around and making good meals, the rib of beef last night was delicious and we opened a lovely bottle of red to go with it.

Pie and mash tonight, back to quick and easy food, I must also do a wash or I will run out of work t-shirts.

Rubbish and recycling have to go out today and DW will need emptying before work.

Tired mum Congratulations on the graduation its a really proud day eh ? xx

Lainey good luck with Rosie today xx

Tru :T yay at the spare room !! xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Well paradise it's not here this morning - never heard rain like it when it woke me up battering all in it's path. Wind too for good measure.

We had a lovely evening last night at the panto - oh no you didn't, oh yes we did! DGD and the other Sunbeams did us proud with their performances. The meal beforehand was very enjoyable too, accompanied by a glass of wine or two.

The rest of the week is going to be a bit disjointed. Shopping day is being brought forward to today as we have St James' tomorrow taking up the whole day as usual. 2 of the DGDs sleeping tonight (eldest at her dads) youngest arriving after ballet about 6.00 and middle DGD arriving quite late after the Alhambra. So tea (yet to christen) will be a disjointed affair too.

Have a good day all if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, carers, sad, worried and lonely. HESTER I can't believe that cataract ops for over 60s have been stopped over your whole area. Can you ask to be referred to a different hospital? Take care all xx

  • Morning everyone. Mild here and raining.
Nmlc, Hope your parents are ok. It will be hard on your Dad to be suddenly thrust into the role of carer. Good that you managed to talk to Mum.
HH, It will be nice to have a day out, enjoy!
Hello Tru,nice to hear from you.
You seemed to have had a nice evening Aod.

Yesterday was ok here, everything that was planned to happen, happened. We had news of another death, one of DH's inlaws. Poor soul was in his eighties and in poor health, so not unexpected. Another funeral to go to - that will be the third since Christmas.

Must do some real housework today. I've been a bit under the weather recently, so have dodged it, but have now reached the stage of being ashamed if anyone calls in. DH vacuumed yesterday, but it's general tidying that's needed as well.

Hope everyone has an ok day, take care
