Hi there, can anyone offer any advice please....my mum had a zenith sliding door installed 6 or so years back, which is now starting to fail, she was under the impression that she had a Fensa 10yr guarantee, but seems that only guarantees the installation....naturally she doesn't want to fork out for a new door (it's the entire unit c4k) if she's able to make a claim....any ideas? Thank you in advance
If it's more than 6 years then there's no claim that can be made under consumer rights. And if the warranty doesn't cover the mode of failure then there's no comeback there either.
Thank DoaM ... it'll be the 6 year anniversary on 15th July! So maybe a claim under consumer rights would be the way to go....I haven't a clue where to start though!!
You may need to prove that the fault is inherent - present at the time of installation but not apparent. If the fault is accepted (or the report proves this on the balance of probabilities) then any remedy (repair, replace, refund - their choice) is likely to be a partial refund ... after 6 years the refund will likely be minimal. (It depends on what would be the expected lifetime of the goods. At a push you could argue the 10 year warranty defines the lifetime, so 4 years remaining / 10 years lifetime x £4k = £1.6k, but I'd highly doubt you'd get anything like that as a offer).
