Thermostat broken?

Ok, a quick one I hope ...
I have an digital timer in my lounge .. it's a British Gas UP1. Next to it is another little box WR1) with a light that comes on when my central heating comes on. In my hallway is the thermostat (RC1) which I normally set to about 19/20c.
So, my heating is supposed to come on at 4.30pm for instance and sit at 19/20c but it wasn't, it just went up and up until I'd run out of clothes to shed and it was 26c!!! I turned it off obviously and now have to manually turn it on and off when I want to heat the house. The water is absolutely fine from the same timer box and when I do turn the CH on, it works fine, but just doesn't stop heating!
My question is: Do I just get a new thermo for my hallway? Is any one compatible or do I have to get a Brit Gas one? Is it easy or do I have to get a Corgi (not sure my cats would like that!).
Your advice would be gratefully received.

Hi,
These British Gas programmers and thermostats are made by Invensys Controls who sell there products under the Drayton badge so these would be compatible.
Try ringing there technical support on 0845 1307722 there open from 9-5 Mon-Fri
If you have a red light on the WR1 then the thermostat needs recommissioning which could explain why the temperature kept going up as it wasnt responding to tell the boiler to switch off.0 -
Sorry it's taken me a few days to come back to say thanks but I've been away to 'sunny' Clacton for a few days!
Anyway, thanks for your advice, I'll give them a call today.

Sorry to drag up an old topic but I have an issue with the same wireless thermostat. My heating works fine with the timer but the thermostat and receiver just don't talk to one another therefore the temperature just keeps going up and up and the thermostat just shows the temperature going up and up and does nothering to stop it going passed the set limit.
The instructions advise how to reset the 2 but this doesn't work.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance to any replies.0 -
After a lot of searching (about 2 hours) I think I have found a website that may help, it certainly sorted my heating out!

This has most of the instruction manuals that British Gas use0 -
Hi
Have been having the same problem with my wireless thermostat have done everything that has been advised but the red light is still on.
Have to keep pressing the over ride button to get the heating on.
Does this mean its bu--ered and need to buy a new one.
Thanks

Try changing the batteries and re locking the stat to the receiver as per instructions.0

Hi.
Yes have changed the batteries and have reset but still the red light is on.
Funny how it can work one day but not the next.
Thanks

Wireless is the work of the devil,
and Radio Frequency Interference is his name.
Try switching off everything wireless next time this happens.
Not that it positively eliminates RF interference, since you can get interference from a neighbour.
I have very minimal wireless stuff, but I still end up answering the door when the neighbour's door bell is pressed.0 -
Karened - I suspect you'll have to replace the RC1. I had exactly the same problem as you, and tried everything in the manual to no avail.
It appears from here from heatingcontrols.co.uk that lots of people have had a similar problem (search for digistar plus rc1). This is caused by a capacitor which wears out in the RC1 and causes this problem. Which I find slightly shocking as my unit is less than 2 years old. So to have a capacitor which lasts less time than a set of batteries would suggest shockingly awful engineering.
The only option is to replace the RC1 (unless you're good with a soldering iron). And the fault is intermittent - mine will misbehave for a week or so before working again.
Hope this helps.0
