Hi All,
Hoping a knowledgable person can help!
My sister is facing redundancy, works full time in a school. The complication is she has very recently also registered as self employed as well (Avon Lady).
Currently makes very little from Avon. Will have paid full NIC for 10 years. Will she be entitled to contributions job seekers until she gets another job? How will her Avon affect her, surely she will still be entitled to job seekers on her past contributions?
Any help or reassurance would be gratefully received.
Thank you.

Yes based on NI contributions she should do. Just go to Gov.uk JSA contributions based and look at criteria. The Avon lady s/e is not earning anything yet, so she would need to see what happens with this. Can be short lived, if no one is interested locally. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Based on what you have said your sister will be eligible for contribution based JSA.
She must work less than 16 hrs a week and her earnings will be deducted from the JSA minus a disregard (how much depends on her circumstances)
To check which contribution based JSA she should claim we need to know her circumstances. Is she single? Partner? Children? Ages? Savings? Rent? Mortgage?
We need to check to see whether she needs to claim new style JSA or the old style.
She may also be eligible for help with rent, council tax etc if she is single.0 -

Married with a partner on okay wage (20kish per annum), mortgage, one child. Not entitled to tax credits currently. Small savings.
I have no doubt she'll get a job quite quickly, but seeing as she has paid in for years she might as well get what she is entitled to inbetween.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Why even bother with Avon, she will be making less than the NMW...
Was just a little something extra to make a £100 or so on top of her monthly salary. She is only making very little for quite a lot of work so I'm not sure if she'll carry that on.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Hi all.
My husband is a self-employed dentist. He is working in a practice run by the NHS Foundation trust. Just before Christmas it has been announced that the practice will close and the staff should find new job. My husband hasn't been offered anything else and was told he will have 5 % of the salaries for the last 6 months kept with them (nor sure for how long) in case of complaints. Does he has the right to be made redundant and respectively be entitled to a compensation or because he is self-employed he should just find another job?
Thank you in advance for your time0 -

I don't understand the bolded part, sorry.
Is your husband actually self employed? Is he registered as self employed and pays his own tax and NI contributions?
Did you mean they are keeping 5% of his salary or 5% of his payments they made to him during the last 6 months? This sounds strange.
If he is genuinely self employed then he cannot be made redundant as he is not an employee. His contract with them will just end.0 -
Thank you for your message.
He is registered as self-employed, paid NIN, self assessment.....
They will keep 5 % of his payments for the last 6 months.
It seems strange and very unfair that they can just terminate the contract and say goodbye. I would expect this from a private company but not from the NHS. And after all there are only handful of dentists that will be employed (respectively having all the rights for employees), most of them must be registered as self-employed in order to find job.
Once again thank you very much for your response.0 -

What do you mean unfair, if he's self employed, then by definition he employs himself!
Why would you not expect this from the NHS??!!0
