    Thank you for your message.
He is registered as self-employed, paid NIN, self assessment.....
They will keep 5 % of his payments for the last 6 months.
It seems strange and very unfair that they can just terminate the contract and say goodbye. I would expect this from a private company but not from the NHS. And after all there are only handful of dentists that will be employed (respectively having all the rights for employees), most of them must be registered as self-employed in order to find job.
Once again thank you very much for your response.

Has he not already been paid for the last 6 months? How are they going to keep 5% of his payments? Deduct this amount from his last payment?

What does his contract say about this?
  • Hello Comms69.
I think it is unfair as he had to be self-employed in order to start there. He wasn't given the opportunity to be employed. And after working for quite a long time there they will just close the practice. It's not fair for all the employees as well, but they will have the option to relocate and probably will receive a compensation.

pmlindyloo the amount will be taken from his last payment. Haven't seen a contract as they haven't provided one. All dentists were supposed to sign one but they had some clauses that were not clear. Collectively they were asking for a review before signing but that never happened.
Anyway, it will be just starting a new job then.
Thank you for all your comments.

That's part of being self employed - the advantage ofcourse is you set your rate of pay, set your working hours etc.
