Ryanair Free Car Hire - NOT

Hello,

I have booked a flight to Spain plus Car Hire with Ryanair, with the car hire stating "FREE CAR HIRE" - "If you find it for less".

And I did find it for less. Same Car Hire Company, Same Car, Same Dates & Times, Same terms & Conditions.

Ryanair have refused to honour their deal.

Reason stated is that with Ryanair you have to Pre-Pay, and with the hire company (the same one as I got the cheaper quote from) and when dealing with the hire company directly you can pay at the counter when you collect (you can of course also pre-pay).

This feels like a complete scam from Ryanair.

Does anyone have advice or similar experience?

Many thanks.

So the terms and conditions are not the same.

No scam, you failed to fulfil the criteria for the refund.

Just took a look at the T&Cs - I bet its rare they ever have to pay out. As is usual with these things they've designed it to be very difficult to claim on, and they're offering so that they can splash the "price promise" banners all over the place. Most people see "price promise", "lowest price guarantee" and read it that that means the price is guaranteed to be the lowest, and stop searching.

Ryanair haven’t refused to honour anything. It’s branded as Ryanair, but the car hire and booking is with CarTrawler, who operate many car hire sites.

As others have said these price promises are so easy for them to dodge due to the T&C’s which are deliberately difficult.

You may be able to cancel your booking free of charge and just go direct with the hire company if they are cheaper? That way CarTrawler and Ryanair will earn nothing off your car hire booking. A small victory if you need one.
