And even then it’s not a ban as he’d revert to a provisional licence holder.

    No, he'd revert to a non-licence-holder.

He has to apply for a new provisional: it's not automatic.

Well if you want to be pedantic about it the actual status is expired substantive until he applies for a provisional.

But as he’s entitled to hold a licence I’ll stand by the fact it’s not a ban.

It's no good, I've had another look at the opening post & I still can't see the bit where he asked for a lecture on driving from people who know nothing about the situation.

Yes. What surprises me is that I got all the way down to post #9 before the first member of the finger-wagging brigade made an appearance. I do wonder some times why people come to this forum at all. There must be other forums where you can just get an answer to your question without being assailed by a bunch of judgemental !!!!!!.

What situation would allow someone to drive at 40% over the maximum allowed?

One where they are prepared to take the gamble of being caught/prosecuted/crashing/injuring in exchange for either getting to their destination a bit earlier or a few moments of a dirty great smile on their face.

It's not big, it's not clever but there are times in todays world where the adrenalin release is worth it.

What surprises me is how often criminals post threads asking for help when they've been caught red-handed!

Maybe it is a little judgemental to think badly of someone who commits crimes that frequently cause death and injury whilst gaining little from it. But I'm fine with that.

Hopefully the punishment the OP gets will serve its purpose and they'll learn to respect the law and other road users.

I was under the impression that the variable speed limit cameras on the M62 only operate when the speed limit has been varied? Would be interesting to know what, if any, varied limit was in place at the time the OP was caught doing 98. Having said that, I've noticed the cameras on the M1 flashing speeding vehicles when no variable limit is in place, so maybe I'm misinformed. OP needs to think about getting a bus pass.

Inappropriate speed is undoubtedly dangerous and the cause of many accidents however to suggest that 100mph in a modern car on a motorway is dicing with death is far from the mark.

Dangerous or not though it is still illegal and totally down to the individual driver, if you don't want to risk the penalties keep to the limit.

Some just don't like being forced to share the public roads with chancers, I don't.

If you can honestly say you never ever tailgate or drive aggressively at that speed and only do nearly 100mph with no danger at all to any other person then maybe some sympathy?

    Was the road empty/generally clear?
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

You are misinformed, unless the M62 is different from the rest of the country.

Why would the police want to capture someone doing 48 in a 40 limit, but not the one doing 98 in a 70?
