I do need it to be stable as 'falling/tripping/wobbling over' is a common party trick.

Gloves just don't work for me.

i've found this grip tape..spoke to supplier online then found cheaper version of same thing.. but it will be quite expensive.. but maybe thats just how it has to be. The largest width is 10cm and my diameter is 135 so I might need two.

I was going to test pipe lagging tmrw so thank you.. i use it to edge overbed tables to make them softer on arms so have a spare piece. That saves me wasting it.

I hadn't thought about adding bulk.. yes that could easily make it too think to grip easily.. its never a simple answer.. again thanks.

I'll have a look at that car panel stuff thank you.

Really nervous of posting location at the moment .. but so kind of people to offer.

County is close enough to give posters an idea of where you are.

I've got a large length of closed cell foam about 3mm thick - Wrapped round the pipe with a bit of contact adhesive & cable ties, it would do the job.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • Cyclamen; you are right to be wary but as Bear says approximate area would be useful but also safe even down to county or town level. It would still be difficult to identify you as one in one hundred thousand persons.
If someone thinks they can help them they p.m. you and you only respond if you feel comfortable with the contact.
As an alternative certain groups are very helpful such as the rotary clubs or other voluntary services in your locality.

How about using pool noodles? I’m sure I’ve seen them in Poundland before, just cut to the required length, slit one side and fit. Job done.

    Thanks to everyone who replied.

I get disability PIP so can save some money up and think i'd better buy the right stuff or that car insulation mentioned above.

I'm really not comfy saying where I am.. it is really kind of people and i know its silly.. my health condition has meant I've ended up a very anxious person at times.. and well one battle at a time.. but thank you.

It is also ot right i take other peoples time as I do have my husband to help ts just he already does so much caring stuff I try not to add more in.. but this could be a 'sunny day' project in summer if i sit out and cheer him on..i think i just have to accept that i need a bigger budget and save up for a while some of the lower poles are rusty so paint and tape needed. I was just trying to do cheap and fast and suspect It needs more effort than that.

    thank you
  • That car insulation is cheap just £13 to £16 for a sheet that might do most of your need?
  • Re. wrapping the tape on the rail, ask your council if they can recommend a 'care and repair' charity service that will do safety-related work for the elderly and/or disabled

I don't know how well it would hold up with the weather, but you could always buy some tennis racket grip and roll it around the rail.

Bike bar tape should give a similar effect.

Would Duck or gaffa tape work? It's pretty cheap for a good size roll and although it looks shiny, I don't think it's slippy. It wouldn't be as insulating as thicker tapes but it might take the edge off.
