Excellent hotel, quite trendy and in a "central" (as central as you can get I guess) location (2 blocks from Empire State and 5 from Flat Iron building).
Rooms are small, as it's a micro hotel, but if you can get a sky room on a good deal (did last year, rooms were reaching £2.5k, but managed to grab one from Expedia for £1.2k with £200 cashback), you get amazing views!
Spent most evenings watching out the floor to ceiling windows, was even treated to a massive thunderstorm!
Edit:
Didn't include breakfast but there was a place on the corner of the street called "bread & butter" which is buffet eating paid for by the weight of the food, usually took enough to cover lunch!0 -

Hotel Metro.
We stayed there two years ago, very reasonably priced and a great location. Subway 100 yards away, Macey's 2 minute walk away, ESB next block over. Times Sq 10 minutes walk away.
We loved it, small but personal and decent sized rooms0 -
We stayed in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central, we got a good price and the hotel was exactly what we were after. It isn't in a particularly touristy area but NYC is pretty easy to get around. Having said that if we were to go back I'd probably look to stay in the Hells Kitchen area, there is a Riu there that wasn't overly pricey.0

I would start looking now, you might find something.
Try and get something with a kitchenette.
I use bookings.com and chose the option to pay later at the hotel.
This allows you to cancel if you find something cheaper.
You can even have several hotels saved this way at the same time.0
