Stealth CCJ registered against me...

Hi there everyone.

I am hoping someone here can help me with a very worrying problem which has cropped up for me over the last week or so.

I have been completely on top of my finances for many years now after a pretty poor show of things when I was younger. I have now had an 'Excellent' credit rating for quite a long time and feel pretty proud that I have been able to do so.

I regularly check my credit report at Experian to make sure I am on top of things. Last week, I logged in to discover that I apparently now have a CCJ registered against me to the value of £273 from the Northampton County Court Business Centre, and I have absolutely no idea what it could be for! I have not received any notifications or post regarding this, but did notice that it was apparently registered against an address that I moved out of more than 3 years ago. Perhaps any letters were sent there?

I haven't had any unpaid or unsettled debts since my twenties (am now in my forties) as far as I can remember. I contacted Experian and they were unable to provide me with any useful information (separate thread there I'm sure).

I have since tried many times to call the NCCBC on the number provided & no one ever answers. I have also emailed them but have not received any response.

This is an urgent problem for me now which I need to get sorted as quickly as possible; I have a new car arriving in April which I need to insure, and my partner and I will be attempting to get a mortgage this year.

Does anyone here have any experience in resolving these types of issue who can guide me in what I should do?

Desperate for advice!

We handle county court claims for money made through the Money Claim Online service and the responses received. We do not handle claims made on paper forms.

You need to check money claim online and ask them why they have put a CCJ in your name, presuming they did not have your contact details or incorrect details and someone did a money claim against you.
  • Money claim online is just a government form people and businesses can fill in to start the ball rolling on obtaining a CCJ.

You need to find out who has actually applied for and obtained the CCJ.
2.88 kWp System, SE Facing, 30 Degree Pitch, 12 x 240W Conergy Panels, Samil Solar River Inverter, Havant, Hampshire. Installed July 2012, acquired by me on purchase of house in August 2017
  • For a start, you don't have a credit rating. No one does.

Secondly you need to make contact with the court somehow and see what the CCJ is for.

Check your credit files and look for any closed/defaulted accounts, and check the other CRA's files as well
  • Regardless of whether we have credit ratings or not, this is my experience and that comment isn't actually very helpful. Let's assume that I am talking about the 'entity' which is used by credit agencies against which they assess whether I am able to obtain credit...

As mentioned in my original post, I have actively been trying to contact the court and have been unable to.

I did try to look into this on Money Claim Online, but you can't look at the claim without the reference from the Defense Pack, which I never received.

What number are you calling for MCOL, have you tried 01604 619402? If you can get in the queue then you just need to wait until they answer, which can take some time.

Yup. Some people are just anal about everything. While technically true in practice that has no relevance. Everyone has a CREDIT FILE. Which lenders and other stakeholders* use to credit score you.

*I had to put in stakeholders in case some smart alec points out its not just lenders but some occupations such as banking and accountancy who will credit check you.

    Hi Harry

Have you tried searching at https://www.trustonline.org.uk/index.php/search-yourself yet, as you may be able to establish more about the origin/identity of the debt that way.

Also, have you tried entering any reference number for the claim you may have found on your Experian report at Money Claim Online to see if that throws up a match?

  • Well, I did as you suggested and paid £10 for a report which gives me no useful information that I didn't already have regarding the judgement.

Advice to all would be not to bother with the service.

I have tried to get information using the reference number, but you also need information from the defense pack which I never received...

This is a problem that parliament is currently debating in order to change the law on how court claims are served.

At present the creditor only has to send the claim to the debtors last known address, so you may of moved several times by the time the claim is issued, its not always practical keeping creditors informed, especially if the debt has been through several debt collectors.

New legislation should stop this from happening.

None of this helps you though does it, keep trying to contact the court is the only advice i can give you.
