Old Style Daily Monday 22nd January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's chilly here this morning but there has been no snow at least although a lot of North Devon got flooded yesterday due to the relentless rain. Fortunately I live at the top of a hill so have managed to avoid that fate.
I have been awake for hours, I am not quite sure what is going on, Becky is more settled but I can't just turn off the worrying and I am actually quite tearful at the moment. It's probably just a reaction to all the stress of the past year but it doesn't feel very nice.
Steve is getting ready for work and the girls are all fast asleep. I can even hear Max snoring in his crate. I will go and feed him in a minute and then make a cup of tea. I then have to prep dinner as I am using the slow cooker today to make a gammon and bean casserole which reminds me, I have to get Steve to fetch the slow cooker down as it is on top of the fridge and I am vertically challenged.
My friend is coming to see me today but I don't really want her to come which sounds awful. It's just that she is having very bad mood swings due to her bipolar not being very well controlled at the moment and it is exhausting. I haven't seen her since before Christmas though and she is desperate to come over. Hopefully she won't stay too long.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Thanks for starting us off dumpling. I’m pleased to hear Becky is more settled. I’m not surprised that you feel a bit down and tearful, you have had a lot to deal with. Try and take care of yourself. You have spent so much time looking after your family recently.
TA whether or not to move is going to be a difficult decision for you, I’m not surprised that it is keeping you awake. I’m sure that you and Mr TA will come to the right decision for you. Meanwhile we are all here as a sounding board for you.
Lainey I was sorry to hear that Rosie had to be taken to the emergency vet. Hopefully she had a comfortable day yesterday.
I’m going to have a walk to the supermarket this morning. I’m in the mood for cooking some more meals for the freezer and need a few things for this and some milk and bread.
Yesterday I managed to give the bathroom a really good clean, and had a quick dust and vacuum through the rest of the house, so I don’t need to do any cleaning today. One of the advantages of living on your own is that it is easy to at least keep the house tidy.
My niece is calling in this afternoon. She has to come to the town I live in for her job so I will bake a cake. She always likes some homemade cake, and I will give her the rest to take back with her for the others.
Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning All
Milder and raining this morning, hopefully it will wash all the snow away. I've just watched someone try to walk down the road, he was slipping and sliding all over the place!
Hope things get back to normal for you soon dumpling.
How's the poorly doggie this morning Lainey?
Off for a swim and onto work, who knows what today will bring. DW can go on when I get home, didn't realise it was nearly full. Washing to do too.
Happy Monday. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all.
All the snow has gone, washed away by rain. The temperature is meant to reach a giddy 8 degrees today.
This morning I’ll be going into the offfice to finish off stuff.
I hope everyone has a restful, stress free abs Happy Monday.0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off, it's not surprising you feel a bit tearful, you've had the ongoing worry with Becky, don't be so hard on yourself x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark but wet and mild here, loads of laying water as after several hours of wet/sleety snowfall yesterday it turned into rain and just kept raining.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, which turned out beautifully and the crackling was excellent, roasties, mash, carrots, brussels, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy, just some veg and yorkshires left, will utilise them for another meal. Dinner tonight will be gammon, egg, chips and peas.
We went yesterday morning and moved the bed downstairs, so at least that's done. Don't feel so bad re the family issues, just know that I need to keep my distance, do what is needed but looking likely that discharge may be today - depends on what other care can be put in place so we'll see. Feel more settled that once she's home then I'll go and do what needs to be done but I won't have to have so much to do with the others that do or don't include me as and when they choose. I will again be sending a text this am to ask that I can be kept up to date on what's happening, again then the ball will be in their court if they choose not to include me in the sharing of information. There's several instances of things they've done over these past weeks that I can forgive but I'll never forget, it's just more to add to the existing stuff. The latest stuff is just so hurtful, I appreciate it was a difficult time for everyone, but why give info to siblings and not include them all.
On to today -
Back to work this morning, hoping for a busy day, so the day passes quickly.
Keep safe and well x

Morning Everyone,
Not been on for a few days. Had Friday off sick as I had a bad throat and felt ill and shivery.
Saturday I had to go to check my moms house and bring more items from it, so as I do not have to do it in a hurry, when selling it later in the year. I feel so sad that my mom will end her life in a home and not in the one she loves.
NMLC At least you do have siblings though who help you. I am an only child, so I have to sort out all of my mothers things/problems by myself - with a bit of help from hubby and my daughter.
Yesterday we had some snow in the morning which settled for a while, then the rain came and washed it all away.
Have a good day all. Hugs to those who need them xxI am a Senior Ambassador on the Competitions Time Board and the Old Style MoneySaving Board.

Morning all, quick post as I need to get ready and off to work.
The snow has melted, thank goodness. I'm much better but still a bit croaky.
Dumpling I'm not surprised you are tearful, you must be emotionally exhausted.
Lainey, hope Rosie is ok today.
TA I just don't know what I'd do, but I'm sure it will come right in the end.
I must get goingI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all. t's a bit milder - yesterday it snowed all afternoon, then it rained. We are supposed to be basking in 6-7 degrees today whoo hoo. it's a mess outside and will be treacherous, as there is still ice and snow in our street. Anyway it's going, everything is dripping.
Hope you pick up a bit Dumpling, you've had so much worry over the last year.
Lainey, I'm so sorry about your doggy. I know how heartbreaking it is when old pets are ill. We have no pets now, but for 40 years we had various cats, sometimes up to 3, then a dog when our daughter came back to live with us for about 4 years, bringing her old staffie.
Nmlc, I think you are behaving very gracefully towards your family. No one can hurt you like your own family. Hope your Mum settles in when back at home.
Thoughts and healing vibes to the sick and worried, silver-Oldie hope you are all right.
Take care folks, and don't fall over if it's slippy.0 -
Good morning all,
dumpling no wonder you're feeling the way that you are. Maybe give your friend a time limit if she comes and tell her you have to go do something else at a certain time?
I have to go into town this morning to collect a school hoodie for the HT. Their PE teacher said if it was cold again this week they could wear one on top of their usual kit. It must have been cold because usually the HT says he's ok but this year he's asked for one. When i come home I need to clean his bedroom. I didn't bother yesterday because he was in it and it's more trouble than it's worth trying to do things while he's there. I need to go and inspect my freezer inventoryfor some inspiration for tonight's dinner.
Take care all of you, especially those that still have snow and ice0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Overnight rain washed some of the snow away but still a covering on the gardens. Roads and pavements look clear thankfully. Today we are forecast a tropical 7 deg!!
Once again thanks all for your info and personal stories about mobility aids etc. MADDIE your parents' story is so sad. I think we have (almost!) decided we will stay put and see about a stairlift and ramps for outside. But first we want to get some jobs done. I have looked at this kitchen long enough and we are going to think about that first. We moved here 38 years ago and had it done a couple of years later. Making a new one long overdue!! The dw packed in last spring and I refused to buy a new one for an old kitchen. Sadly it won't look like REDRUBY's kitchen as it's not big enough! Then we want to get some decorating done. It will come hard getting someone in when we have always done it ourselves, but those days have gone. I did our bedroom last year and I was shattered by the time I had finished it, vowing never again! Old age is such fun!!
DS and his ladylove called in yesterday with the news he is moving in with her. She is such an open and lovely lass, so different to the psycho some of you might remember when we had all that trouble 18 months ago! I really hope it works out this time - they were bf and gf when they were at school but drifted apart as you do at that age. Then, almost 30 years later they met up again by chance and bingo the magic was still there! (That is yet another reason for staying up here as she lives in our village too!)
Well I promised myself I wouldn't waffle on today but here I go again! Sorry folks! No fixed plans for today but plenty of jobs lined up if I get bored! I want to pop in town too to see if Fultons have some cooking bacon (needed for soups). The last lot I got was like a giant pack of sliced back bacon with virtually no fat. It seemed almost too good to cook with! It would be lovely if I got the same again!
Have a good day folks if you can and, as always, ((HUGS)) all round for those in need of them. FBOz you have had such a long wait for the funeral. What a strain it must have put on the family with all that waiting.. Stay strong, we are all thinking of you. CAMELOT lovely news, hope it won't be long before he brings some little people with him! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
