In Settings- safari, there is a button you can turn on or off that says “ ask websites not to track me”. What does this mean and should I have it turned on?

    From Apple
Some websites keep track of your browsing activities as you use the website, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. You can have Safari ask websites—and others who provide those sites with content, including advertisers—not to track you.

With this option turned on, each time Safari loads content from a website, Safari adds a request not to track you, but it’s up to the website to honor this request.

So I guess that would be really annoying, having a box pop up every time I load a website. Especially if the website may not comply anyway.

Don't understand what you mean by having a box pop up every time you load a website. Read what Apple is saying and switch it on and see what happens when you visit websites.

    Learn by doing i say:)

I have it switched on, no boxes pop up, I’d forgotten it was on.
