Energy Care Group Ltd

Experiences please? Aside from this thread from 2011, nothing comes up on the forum search.

Their leaflet includes loft insulation for £99, and a half price boiler sale (they have used the Which? Best Buy endorsement: has boilers September 2016) which adds some credibility if it's true.

Advice please? I need to have my loft insulated but if I'm told to leave well alone in good faith, that's exactly what I'll do.

No business can operate a proper loft insulation service at £99. I accept there may be hidden incentives, but the large insulation companies of this ilk have a dreadful reputation.

Loft insulation is a simple, straight forward job, but needs to be done with consideration to ventilation, access, loft boarding, membranes, loft storage ... at £99 you will get zero consideration on this.

Equally a half price boiler sale is meaningless sales BS. No commercial business can suddenly just cut in half the price of a boiler.

Then look at the website - dismal, meaningless, and with spurious claims to Which? So what if they fit WB or Valliant? Both products are fine, and the problems come with the design, the materials, the workmanship, and the inspection of all that attaches to these. Of course, on all this the website says nought.

Then look at the google reviews and it becomes a no brainer!

Check if your energy supplier is offering any special deals at the moment.

But do not expect the job to be done properly. There are numerous threads on the Forum about condensation in roof spaces, others about wet insulation, others about leaking pipes where there is no, or inadequate insulation, others on fire risks from buried wiring, others on loft boarding clashing with insulation...OP will get the idea here.

Cavity wall insulation is gradually being perceived as a con trick for many people. It too was cheap, or free. The same, or similar, companies adopt an identical "we could not care less attitude" with loft insulation. It is just that this does not receive press coverage and media attention. Consequently countless folks are not aware of this.

I’m mindful of the warnings, but where does that leave me? The house is known to be energy inefficient, whilst I’ll survive the next 9-12 weeks I know that I need to do something before next winter.

Any recommendations for decent firms that can do the job in South Essex?

I am not near South Essex, so cannot advise, but the real answer, in the real world is to diy it. The next stage, if diy does not appeal, would be to seek a competent handyman. Discuss the typical issues - I have given pointers above. Then book the work for a cool day, or cool time of year or perhaps an early start job. Loftspaces can be hell in summer temperatures!
