EnergyCare Group...experiences please?!

Hi
I don't usually post on this board, but think it is probably the best place to post for advice on this subject (Board Guides, if you think this needs moving elsewhere, please do so...thank you).
My father (who has recently celebrated his 80th birthday) has received a letter this week from the EnergyCare Group offering him free insulation, and free solar panels. Seemingly, this offer is available to anyone who is on a long list of government benefits, or who is over 70 years old.
The letter talks about the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target, and claims that "EnergyCare Group are working alongside the Energy Saving Trust, National Insulation Association, Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency and the British Board of Agrement". (I have not heard of these groups). The letter also claims that they "have been authorised to carry out such works and can deal with the grant processing and insulation on your behalf".
When my Dad showed me the letter, he was quite enthusiastic (mainly because he thinks it might benefit me in the future - I am an only child, and I know will eventually own my parents house - and I am still a long way off being 70 myself
- in Dad's own words "it would be good for you if I can get it for free because it will benefit you eventually because they can't take it away once its installed"), and he is keen to call them for one of their "free surveys". However, being naturally cynical, all my internal alarm bells are ringing and I am suspicious that I have not heard of these people before. The letter looks very professional - claims that they are working with the Snug Network (which, again, I have not heard of...
) and that they are aiming to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support (which, of course, I have heard of
) and they have the Macmillan logo on the top of their letter...
The letter has Company Registration Numbers and VAT registration numbers, but I am still sceptical - it does not appear to have a website and its e-mail is energycare@btconnect.com (am I wrong to expect a company who claims to be this successful to have its own website/e-mail address, i.e. something@energycare.com,???).
Really, I guess I am asking if anybody else has experience of this company. Have you received a similar letter? Have you followed it up, and has it been successful?
I would be grateful if anybody could share their experience of this company. I am more than happy to be proved wrong in my suspicions, but I am very much of the opinion that "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!". On this occasion, the offer being made to my Dad seems very generous and I feel certain there must be a catch.
So my thought was...where better to throw the subject open to people who are likely to know than on this website?
Thank you if you have read this far, and thank you in advance to anybody who is able to reply...

I have just had the same letter today, though in my case, I was more interested in the free solar panels on offer. But I am also very skeptical about this company. On their letter they say they are REA (Renewable Energy Assuance Limited) approved. I checked on the REA website and was not overly surprised to see that Energy Care Group is NOT a member. So their letter is going into the recycling bin!0

If you search for energycare (one word) on the REAL website you will find them listed!0
