20yo grease will probably have dried out and separated. Buy new. It's cheap.0

Bearings on bikes usually have lithium grease. In my experience it is gray coloured. When it is brown that means water has got in past the seals and it needs cleaning and repacking.0

Wondering if it was "copper grease" the op means.I remember it from about 40 years back, came in a small tin and was much more expensive than ordinary grease.it was a dark bronze colour and used to prevent seizing up.you would use a smear of it behind brake pads to stop squeaking too..0

That's not "lubricating grease" it's "anti seize grease" Used to help future dismantling of stuff. very good too. "Copaslip" is one, Rocal make a version as well. I usually use a bit of Rocal "anti scuffing" paste on bicycle wheel bearings.0 -
Thread of the week! This is brilliant. Next time i’m in the shed I’m sniffing my grease, I don’t care what the neighbours say. It’s only the rain that’s preventing me doing it now.0

You've only got to open the tin of grease I was given and you get the smell of plasticine (If you can remember what plasticine smelt like).worried_jim wrote: »Thread of the week! This is brilliant.
