Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know where to put it.
Would anyone know what grease was used by the territorial army about 20 years ago. The grease came in a white metal tin and was a dark brown colour and had a strong smell. I was wondering if it's for bearings as I just removed the bearings from my daughters bike and it has the same smell.

Put in a Freedom of Information request to the MOD. If they still have the records and they aren’t to time consuming to find they will tell you.0

I was given the grease years ago but I cannot remember if I was told what it was used for. I don't know if it helps but the grease smells like plasticine like back in the eighties.forgotmyname wrote: »There were a 1001 different types. Go to your local motorist shop and just buy any high temperature grease. The stuff you're talking about doesn't sound like what we used to use for bearings when I was in REME. Grease for wheel bearings on vehicles was more a toffee colour, a mid-light brown and fairly translucent. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Bicycle or motorbike?
Whatever as said any HMP grease will do.
A lot of things which have been packed with grease for a while have a particular smell, which is of course indescribable.0 -
