Discount from retailer as item is not as expected

I recently ordered a coat on line but item received is very 'grubby' and has numerous marks on it and I can't say for definite that it's never been worn.
I contacted the company immediately but unfortunately it is now out of stock and they can't replace. They informed me I could return or consider a partial refund if I forwarded photos.
I just wanted to ask how much discount is likely to be offered and what would be acceptable.
Thanks in advance.
(Edit:Sorry forgot to state above that it was in the sale and already reduced by 50% as it's winter stock.)

They are likely to offer 65% but only 66% and above is acceptable.

Only you can decide what discount would be acceptable, it's your money.

Personally, I wouldn't want a coat that is "very 'grubby' and has numerous marks on it", regardless of the price.

That's how I feel to be honest but there isn't another one available. It would need to be washed before it could be worn and I can't believe it was sent out in such a state!

Anyone in retail who can advise what they would offer the customer in these circumstances?

The only person who can give the correct answer is the retailer YOU bought from. No one knows their margins. Just ask them.

You have to balance how much you really want the coat with what amount of money the supplier say they want for the coat - and decide if it's worth the money.

As previously said, only the retailer can tell you that.
Decide how much you're willing to pay and get in touch with them.

How much was the coat at full price? Is it dry clean only or something you would put in the washing machine?

I'd maybe get a few quotes for getting it cleaned and see if the retailer will cover the cheapest quote.

Until the OP contacts the retailer and sends photos of the ''grubby' coat with numerous marks on it, they don't even know if the retailer will agree to reducing the coat further.
