KLM missed connection because of delay in Europe

Hi all, I'm after some advice before I submit my claim.
Booked to go to krakow, Poland via Amsterdam from Cardiff airport. The flight from Cardiff was about 30mins delayed going to Amsterdam because of the bad weather they had in Amsterdam. We were also extra delayed (10mins) because the pilot was waiting for the paperwork before he could set off and when we finally arrived in Amsterdam the ground crew didn't have any steps for us to get off, which added an extra 10mins to getting off the plane causing us to miss our connecting flight to Krakow. They offered us another flight the day after but meant we would be arriving in Krakow at 7pm which we refused. We would have had to wait in Zurich airport for 8 hours!! We asked them just to book us a flight home as it was pointless in going for 1 day. We had trips and transfers booked in Krakow which we lost.
They put us up for 1 night in Amsterdam and flew home the next day really annoyed because of everything we had lost. I also paid for booking our seats on the krakow flight which I want reimbursed. Can I claim for everything or just the flight? I've kept receipts for food and drink etc. Any advice is appreciated.
