I think you can see calls which didn't get through the call guardian in the call log

You are remembering correctly. I used to see them in the call log quite regularly ... now I see very few - I guess my number has rotated off the spam lists as it was never getting any response. :)

I have the BT phones, but its limited on the amount of numbers you can block.

Bought a cheap white call blocker off ebay, loaded with a load of numbers and you can add 1000 more. Since adding that the phone rarely rings.

As above at first the logs showed lots of attempts, but all they get is 1 partial ring and it cuts them off if blocked. No attempts for many months and i think only 1 mobile number in the past 12 months.

I have them too, and TBH have never found the need to block a number. Setting unknown numbers to 'announce' seems to be sufficient to deter pretty much all junk callers.

This is probably too complicated for your dad, but it's a funny idea.

This guy set up a voice-activated robot to answer telemarketing calls. The idea was to waste their time (without wasting your own) so that they never call back.
    ...

I do a similar thing at home. I'm using FreePBX and set up an IVR on my landline saying "Hello, press 1 to speak to somebody, press 2 to leave a message."

I think only one guy came through in the last two years. Before that I had several calls a day, after I set this up the calls became much less frequent when I check the logs. Now it's only one a week or even less. I guess they removed my number from their lists.

Some telecom company sold a load of northern area code number to scammers/spammers a while back and i was getting calls from those so the call blocker worked a treat being able to add partial numbers.

Im happy with it, worked well for us. There was another issue with the BT phone but i cannot remember what that was.

Cannot separate withheld and private numbers or something?

How do you connect to the internet with no landline?
    4G if available

BT Call Protect included with your landline
Tired of unwanted calls? So were we. That’s why we came up with BT Call Protect – a clever bit of technology that helps prevent nuisance calls. It’s easy to switch on and free for BT customers.
Once on, we’ll monitor for known nuisance callers and automatically divert them for you. If there’s a particular number you don’t want to hear from again, you can add them to your personal blacklist to send future calls to your junk voicemail.
Plus, if there’s a category of numbers you don’t want to hear from – like international, withheld or unrecognised numbers – you can send them straight to junk voicemail.

Been a long time since i was a BT customer and you had to pay for call blocking back then. Couple of £ a month? No withheld number for several days then suddenly started to get private numbers instead. Contacted BT and they said they couldnt block those.

I said whats the point of paying for a service to block unknown callers when i still get unknown callers with private. They refunded me and i then bought the 6510 phones and soon after the call blocker.

Ah sorry, I'd misunderstood, I'd assumed you had the BT8500 (or similar). As far as I can see the 6510 only offers the ability to block numbers, which IMO is a complete waste of time since you can't block a number until you've had at least one call from it.

Simple, as has been said, simply buy a BT phone with the Call Guardian system fitted, sorted.

Any legitimate call can be allowed through simply by going through the system, scam calls won't.

As a starter, my wife and I loaded the contacts from our mobiles on to the system, sorted!!
