Let's hope it's not English or grammar you are tutoring.
  • Hi therivierakid

This is definitely a long time ago - and I hope you managed to find openings as a maths tutor since your first post. However, if not, it's worth me adding this here anyway for later viewers of this thread. Private maths tutoring appears to have taken an online route in the last few years, and many services sign-up maths tutors with CRB check and relevant qualifications/experience to work online with maths students.

One recent addition to the market is iTutorMaths, which is an interactive, live online service where you can register as an online maths tutor, providing you 'fit the bill', so to speak.

Further information about their service for you is here:

There are many other online maths teaching services too worth checking out - but these appear to be the latest entrant into the market (Johnny Ball reviews iTutormaths on YouTube - 23/09/2011).

    Hi All,

Just a quick question, although I'm not sure I'm posting in the correct place!

I am thinking about tutoring for KS2 Sats etc - being an experienced primary school teacher, currently working in Year 6, I feel well placed to do a good job!

My query is that, I currecntly run and manage a very small mobile disco operation, which I declare through Self assessment and was wondering whether any extra income from tutoring could be declared through that company - or whether I'd need to register again?

Any help or comments would be really appreciated!

    Cheers

    Hi everyone,

I am doing some research to form the basis of an article and was hoping that some of the users on this forum might be able to help me gather some results.

Do you consider private tuition a feasible alternative income to teaching?

Are there any teachers out there who consciously made the decision to switch to tutoring?

Any feedback would be much appreciated,
  • Thanks for that IIDT. I'm already doing some online tuition but I could definitely do with a few more students.

Would anyone be up for a bit of a link exchange? I'm happy to put links to any tutors on my website (except maths tutors in my area!) My website address: https://www.simonwilliamstutor.co.uk

  • Hi all,

I have a quick question about CRBs. I have an enhanced one that was issued in January 11, when I volunteered at my local hospital. Am I ok to use this on my advertising for pupils and when would be the best time to have it renewed?

Thank you for all the really helpful content on this thread - it's been so helpful!

Hello, I've been asked to do some tutoring but I would like to set up a spreadsheet to help me work out expenses, etc. What am I allowed to class as expenses? Does anyone have a template spreadsheet that I could borrow? :) Many thanks.

I think CRBs last for 3 years or so - but individuals can't get them anyway. You need an organisation to apply for one for you. I think other people have advised joining a tutor agency (not just a contact list agency) and they will get one for you. Other options are volunteering (as you have done before) and using that one. But you should be okay for a while with the one you have now.
