Air France delays compensation

HI I was flying back from Japan via Paris, Due to the weather at Heathrow, I could not catch my connection from Paris to Heathrow, Air france paid for one night's stay in Paris but I was rebooked on to a flight after two days, so I had to pay for an extra nights stay and a taxi to the airport. Having read the relevant agreements, it is not clear to me if I can claim the extra nights stay from Air France, or if its just my hard luck. any ideas?
