Transferring from apple to android

Hi

I am looking for help with changing from my Apple iPhone 4 to my new Motorola G5 because I have never had any problem before, changing from Android to Android, Android to iPhone, etc, but, now, trying to transfer to my new Android from my old Apple is proving, amazingly, much more complicated than I had expected!

Initially, I had some help with a tech representative who advised that I had to set up a gmail account on my new phone to start off, and then transfer "data". He set this up for me, and had linked my Hotmail/Outlook account to the new gmail account. I then had to just 'finish off the transfer' but, now, (some months later,) I cannot remember for the life of me what I need to do next!

As usual, these days, there aren't any proper instructions or a hard copy of a guide.

After trying to go through the apps and icons on my Motorola, I am finding it hard to do much with it, let alone find anything that I need, and even just the contacts page seems to be completely different, and confusing, and it looks like I will have to manually set one up again.

If there is anyone out there who understands to what I am referring, and perhaps have already been through the same thing themselves, I would really appreciate some tips, advice, suggestions and basic 'how to' steps, if possible, please.

(- oh, and if I don't respond to any questions or comments immediately, don't worry, I am unable to do so on my mobile, (the Apple one,) but once I access my computer again, I shall definitely come back to you!)

Many thanks, in advance!

Don't know about iPhones, but I transferred contacts from a Nokia phone direct to an Android by using Bluetooth

When that phone failed I transferred them again by Bluetooth from the same Nokia

These are stored as phone contacts. I still don't have Google contacts, though maybe I should consider it for backup.

I think the expert may have unnecessarily complicated the issue for you. As you've had Android before, you would just log in with the account you used on the last Android phone. This will sync your contacts etc from then.

Next you would install the Outlook android app and log in with your Microsoft Account (from using Outlook/Hotmail) on the iPhone. This will bring your contact, calendar and email up to date.

Next go to the Play Store and search for an app to move your pictures, videos etc. I don't want to recommend one as I haven't done it on a Motorola and they no longer provide their own migrate app.

Thank you for your comment, "redux", but for some strange reason, going from an Apple to an Android phone is different; this is why I have a problem.

As I mentioned above, I haven't had a problem before, I just 'synchronised' from one phone to the other.

Thank you "PHK", but I haven't had an "Android" for many years, and so I haven't a clue what the log-in details for that would be. I would imagine that, if it was different from those used on iPhone, when I transferred over, then they have probably closed the account down now.

That said, since it was as straightforward as my previous phone transfers, (because Android to Apple isn't a problem,) I imagine that I transferred everything over anyway, when I bought the iPhone years ago.

As for installing various apps for Outlook, etc, well, this was already transferred over and accessible by the Google/gmail log-in.

On Play Store, what would I put in the search box to find an app that moves photos?

    Thanks again.

Thank you "ballyblack", this link looks really good, from a quick scan over it.

I shall have a look into it tomorrow morning, and let you know how I get on.
