Tyres

Options
Hi,

I have just been quoted £120 per tyre by ford for my focus. Does anyone know of anywhere that will be significantly cheeper? Kwikfit and the like are pretty much the same and a rip off.

Most of the High Street places like Kwik Fit cater for the fleet market. People who want to drive in and get it sorted asap. They pay for this privilege and get charged top price. Any bills forwarded by them to the leasing companies will get discounted which is why the cost is high in the first place.

I imagine your Focus has a 195/65/15 or 16 wheel and should cost £50-£75 from an independent.

  • Costco are dirt cheap for Michlin tyres if there is one near you.
  • I've been looking at £50-£60 for our Focus? Even P6000's were only £65 at a Hi-Q place down the road.

Best bet is to get the phone out and ring round ~5 places and make a list of their prices. Smaller places sometimes have deals on certain brands. p.s. always check the price includes VAT, valves, balacing and fitting.

I think just tyres have a voucher you can download from their website for money off
  • Thanks everyone. :T

look on black circles and my tyres.
then take the best price and haggle with the local tyre places.remember you have to add fitting costs to my tyres.
last itme i did this my local place matched my tyres price without fitting costs.
end of the day these tyre places are happy to make a profit even if its small.
    what size do you need?

    Also try http://www.etyres.co.uk.

Also, local tyre depot managers can be more suggestible to haggling at the end of the month, especially if they are getting desperate to hit their monthly sales target.

Get the tyre size off the current tyres, and phone around asking to include VAT
    fitting
    balancing
    new valve.

Ask what the cheapest tyre they can do for you (this will be budget tyres and are usually from Ukraine or China type countries)
Ask what the cheapest brandname type tyre they can do e.g. Falken
    Ask if they do remoulds.

All 3 category tyres above are type approved and will be safe IMO. Up to you which category you are happy with. I always choose remoulds or cheap new. I never pay for a name. You might be different, and no doubt the doom and gloomers will say after this post something like
"the only thing between you and the road is your 4 tyres, you get what you pay for" etc etc etc - Like I say I have never had a problem.
  • What model year and model of Focus is it and whats the tyre size.
In 2005 I bought a new Focus drove home and changed the wheels.
If your in Lancashire I might be able to do a good deal, the tyres are Continental top of the range on the original wheels fully factory balanced and the car have done 11 miles when I took them off.

    I think they are 195/65-15.

Thanks for your response. My tyres are 205/55W16 but thanks anyway.
