Old Style Daily Thursday 18th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Hope everybody is having a bit of a lie in this morning. I went to bed at 7.30 last night, woke briefly to take my meds and then back to sleep until 5am so I feel human again today.
Steve has to go to the hospital for his pre op as he needs to have a cataract operation soonish so he had a bit of a lie in too. I have a taxi booked for just after 9 to take Becky to see her psychiatrist but I will let her stay in bed until just before we leave as she was quite tired yesterday.
I am planning on making a cottage pie for tea with loads of veg as we have quite a bit to use up. I will do that once we get back so I can just relax this afternoon with my knitting.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to and loads of hugs for the poorly, worried or just fed up xx0 -
Morning DUMPLING and all to follow. I'm pleased Day 1 with Becky home went well, let's hope for the same today. Hope too Steve's pre op goes well.
After a couple of days of disruptive weather all seems peaceful out there today. No further snow overnight so the roads are still clear but plenty still lying in the gardens. We have escaped the wind, it seems the east coast are getting a battering though. Hope our eastcoasters are safe.
Shopping day today, starting with Sainsbobs to collect my meds and a few bits of shopping. Then over to Aldi for main shop, though not a lot needed this week. I hope it's as quiet as it was last Thursday and the same 50% off bargains would be welcome too!
The DGDs are sleeping tonight so it's the usual Thursday treat of a huge Bolognese pasta bake. I can't make a start on it though until we have been shopping as my mince supplies have been exhausted and I need to do a re-stock!
Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, worried and sad amongst us. Take care all in whatever weather you are getting today xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning chums.
Thanks for the thread dumpling. I hope all goes well for Steve today.
Well it’s just very soggy outside. No snow and the wind has dropped so it’s very calm for a change.
After work yesterday I went to visit a friend with a little bunch of flowers. I learnt that her mother died just before Christmas when I was away. We had a good old matter which I really enjoyed. Then back home for more laptop work.
Student numbers were low as most live in remote areas which suffered worst in the snow fall. There’s now just a ton of paperwork to finish up. I’m not fond of paperwork!
Today is more of the same...writing up reports, assessments and finishing off teaching plans. I’m not going down to Glasgow this weekend. DM is well stocked up and I need the time here.
I hope everyone is getting better and wish you all a happy Thursday.0 -
Morning everyone
It is pouring right now and the wind is howling. I was tossing and turning worrying about possible wind damage to the house, finally dropped off and something blowing about in my neighbour’s garden woke me up after about an hour, so I gave up and have spent most of the night on the sofa.
If the trains are running ok I’m going to go over to see my sister in law and we will have a wander around the town where she lives and have a coffee and cake somewhere. It’s market day there on Thursday so plenty to see and do. These days it is simple pleasures like this that that I enjoy and look forward to.
If there is a problem with the trains, I shall go into town and have a wander around and sis in law and I will meet next week instead.
Loved the gritters Gers some of them have really good names!
Dumpling I hope that yesterday went ok with Becky and that she is adjusting to being home. I was pleased to read that you have some support. I hope that Steve’s op goes well today.
Nmlc it was good to read that your mum is managing to walk a little bit each day.
Tiredmum it sounds like you deserved both tops after taking your mum shopping.
I hope that those of you with snow and bad weather are staying warm and safe.
Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning all
Seems to be very windy here and cold although its meant to be a bit warmer today.
Off to work today I can home at mid day yesterday as I had the most horrible pain up under my ribs on the left hand side I have had it before (it kind of feels like a rib is caught up) but only for a few seconds at a time this one lasted over three hours and was agony. Its all gone this morning which is very strange !!
Something and chips for dinner tonight will go and have a rummage after this, need to put a wash on too so that I have enough work t-shirts for the weekend.
Dumpling glad you had a good night xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all from a windy Essex
Dolly has been walked and is now playing with a dentastick but will resume neighbourhood watch shortly .DH is still off work he now has a hacking cough aching muscles and tiredness.
Looks like we have lost at least 2 fence panels in the back they were due to be replaced in the spring /summer so we knew they were on their way out now just to find some and get them delivered I am off to get my hair done at a place recommended by a fellow dog walker that is quite reasonable . I should go shopping after but i really dont want to might just pick up a few essentials in the town near the hairdressers
Dumpling glad yesterday went ok for you all
Jackie O hope the shopping trip was a success lucky it was yesterday as the bridge closed at midnight and we are not sure when it is reopening the local roads are now chaos .
Hugs to all who need them and those who have worries
Have a great day and stay safe and warm x0 -
Morning everyone,
Disturbed nights sleep as the wind has been horrendous and like Holly was worried about the house, we are on the side of the field and the cottage is the first thing that the wind hits! Beloved has been all around this morning and only damage was the dustbin lid had gone flying and one of the garden lights had come off its hook, we have been lucky.
Yesterday was all about vets, with one lot taking blood from my girlie (she was a little star) and the other taking a sample from my old dogs paw for analysis, he thinks it's a fatty lump but obviously wants to check. I always pay extra for them to come out to us as the surgery stresses her out so much, just won't put her through that if not necessary.
Today will be food shopping and then off to Cambridge for a much needed haircut.
Take care all, hugs to all poorlies and those with worries x0 -
Morning all
Pleased you've had a quiet night and caught up with your sleep Dumpling. Hope you have agood day.
There are several inches of snow here, and it's very cold. i'm going to get my hair done - hope I have more luck than TA did yesterday.
Redruby, do you think you've pulled a muscle - what has happened to me before is that if I twist from the waist too far in either direction I get bad pain in my ribs on whatever side it is. It can take a few hours to fully go away. I've never known what it is.
HH, I see you've had another bad night, it's the worst isn't it. You feel as if you're the only person in the world that's awake.
Nmlc, hope your Mum keeps improving, even a little is better than nothing.
Thoughts to the sick and worried, and hope everyone's day goes ok.0 -
Morning all,
Jackie - Spoke to her the night before last. She actually beat me to it and phoned me to check if I was ok, when I had planned to call her once I got home. I think she stocked up before the forecast. I'll phone her en route home tonight.
Visited my mum last night to collect a few things and make sure my old car is ready for collection today. Went home for an early night. Boring.
No plans tonight. Might try some batch cooking of chilli.
Stay safe everyone!0 -
Morning all,
bahh these sleepless nights keep rolling in. I tossed and turned thinking about Prodigal till just after 1 and woke up 3 hours later. By this time i'd had enough of my thoughts so decided to play some soft gentle music until i finally drifted off. I remember Youngest going to work and then i fell asleep.
What to do about Prodigal. On one hand Grump is right, Prodigal has had ample opportunity to sort his life out, we have fed him, clothed him numerous times and he's repaid us in the past by turning up at my doorstep at midnight, drunk as a skunk trying to smash his way into the house scaring me enough to phone the police. We have security all around the house since that episode but Grump is right, what use is that if i am going to let him in. Yes i think he's got mental health issues but he is cunning and sly with it but what Grump is asking me to do goes against every Mothering instinct within me. How many of you Mothers out there could turn your child away when they were hungry? Where the 'children' are concerned, Ive never gone against his wishes before but my Mothering instincts are giving me a hard time.
Changing the subject ever so slightly....
Dumpling i am glad Beckys first night back home was a success and i hope Steves pre op goes well.
LaineyT i hope the results from the tests the vet took come back favourable.
ScarletRibbons a piece of advice... Aim to stay upright!
