You no longer need to visit a Metro branch to open an account; you can now do it online.

Metro are one of the few banks with no Post Office access.
OK, if you never need to deposit anything or live near a branch.0 -
Are Metro part of the switching scheme ?
Can a Metro current account be switched to another provider ?0 -
It dont appear to work properly yet.
I clicked to apply online and its just saying the application is loading.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I managed to apply, something weird happened.
It done it’s initial check (which it claimed wouldn’t effect my credit rating) and I was accepted, great..
It then went to its second check (which it claimed were anti money laundering and WOULD effect my credit file) and I was declined..
Called them was told to write in for the reason why - email just said I didn’t meet the criteria - we’ll surely they knew that after the first search?!
Also, my understanding is that AML checks were classed as ‘other’ searches and didn’t impact your credit file. Annoyed as I wouldn’t have went to stage two check if it said it couldn’t accept me.
After looking at my credit file it appears they’ve done a credit quotation, AML and credit search. No idea what order but I’d say credit quotation and credit search and AML at same time. Which makes their application process confusing and inaccurate0 -
Hi folks,
We've also done a news story on this.

OK, if you never need to deposit anything...
Plenty of ways to deposit money without going to a branch, I fund mine with Faster Payments, and you could always send in a cheque. I haven't been in a Metro branch since I opened my account on a visit to London from Scotland quite a few years ago, and have not been adversely impacted in any way.0 -
I've been using Metro Bank as my main current account for five years now. Their service is good, but very branch oriented. As soon as there is a problem, the solution is normally "visit a store".
I've now moved somewhere with no branches locally. Paying in cash or cheques can be a nuisance, but I have a current account with other banks so can use their branches or the Post Office.
Branch service is very good, rarely any waiting time and always offered a seat at a desk for anything more complex than paying in (other banks seem to want more stuff done at the counter and away from the "welcome desk").
The online banking also has a few annoying quirks that they don't seem to want to fix, no matter how many times I mention it to them:- the drop-down menus to enter your password don't work if you tab through the characters using the keyboard instead of the mouse (the characters get selected, but you get an error when submitting)
- you cannot set up a standing order to start on a weekend or bank holiday, therefore if you want to set up a payment for the 1st of every month but the next 1st is a Sunday, you have to choose 2nd then adjust it manually the following month
- if your payment or standing order cannot be set up (e.g. because you put a prohibited character, including &, - and / in the name, or because of the weekend/bank holiday issue, it forces you to go through the full SMS verification then fails at the final step with a generic error that doesn't tell you what the problem is
- the pop-up "security" text after logging in requires the whole page reloading to get rid of it
- the app and website doesn't give you the reference number of BACS payments, but does give you the reference of Faster Payments - the monthly paper statements give them for both

God why would you even open an account like this.0
