This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

As is becoming usual now I couldn’t sleep. So after tossing and turning most of the night I gave up around 3.00am and I’ve been reading since then. It is nice an peaceful in the middle of the night though.

Thinking of you Dumpling and hoping that Becky has had a good night.
Karcher I hope that you are feeling a bit better today, take care of yourself.
Nelski hopefully shopping with mum wasn’t too stressful yesterday.

I did a bit of batch cooking for the freezer yesterday, three portions of chilli, three of meat sauce for spaghetti Bolognese, and four portions of beef bourguignon. I’ve got a few HM ready meals in the freezer now so I’m quite pleased.

UK Power is due sometime this afternoon to change the main fuse to the house. I had a problem at the beginning of December when I suddenly lost electricity to the house one Saturday afternoon. They came and fixed it within an hour and came back the following Monday to make a more permanent repair and this is the final part of the work. At least there is no charge for this.

I need to get a load of washing on this morning. Other than that I don’t have any particular plans for today.

Hugs to those who are poorly or caring for someone who is.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you HH for starting us off, I am another one who can't sleep so I have been mooching around the internet since the early hours. I have managed to make a meal plan and order next week's shopping so not a totally wasted morning.

The journey back from the hospital was ok, Becky hadn't packed her stuff so we had to wait a little while for her to do that. Her nurse told me that Becky had been very upset but she seemed quite chirpy once we got in the car. She went straight to bed and I didn't hear her move around in the night. She has the orthodontist this morning so I have to make sure she is up and organised for that and then she has a meeting with Assertive Outreach later on. The hospital told me that she will have someone from various organisations coming to see her every day this week so I don't feel quite so alone with it all.

I need to contact my friend as her son is a locksmith. I need to put a lock on a kitchen drawer to lock away the knives and scissors so that will be my priority today.

My beautiful grandchildren are popping round before school as their mum has to go to work early today. They are bringing the little westie with them as he has been sad being home alone all day. I am looking forward to seeing him again and Max will be happy to have his playmate visit.

I've put the first load of laundry on but there is a lot so the machine will be working hard today. The dishwasher needs to go on after breakfast too and the floor desperately needs hoovering especially as there are going to be a lot of people coming here this week.

Salmon and new potatoes for dinner tonight again as it was so nice last week. It will be nice to eat something lovely and fresh as well.
I also want to make a cottage pie for the freezer and if Becky is up to it, I bought all the stuff to make sushi as it is her favourite.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

Snow here but it's not too bad, I feel for all those stuck on the roads all night.

Hope all goes well with Becky dumpling.
Hope you're feeling better this morning karcher.

Went swimming yesterday, the usual collective (OAPs) were missing, I was the only one in the pool for a while! I actually thought the place was closed it was so quiet.

I heard from DS1 again last night, we were going to meet up this week but the weather has put us off, where he lives is further north and particularly snowy, maybe we'll manage it over the weekend. DS2 messaged me yesterday to say he's ok - he's in Africa and I hadn't heard from him for a while, just no internet.

Sorted the new calendar last night, takes ages to transfer all the birthdays over!

Hope you are all safe from the weather, have a good day, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone.

Dumpling - good to read that support for Becky is in place.

Despite the dire warnings there’s no snow here though I know other areas have been hit hard and not so far away. Yesterday there was a very bad four car collision the A83 at Loch Fyne which closed the road for hours.

All the chaos has brought out the humourous side of it. There’s a real time gritter lorry tracker online which shows where each one is. Turns out that loads of them have names, and funny ones too. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-42703839

I’m teaching first thing though I expect that I’ll be missing a few students because of the weather. After that I’ve got a ton of paperwork to sort out and stuff to catch up on.

My lunch will be some of the cold chicken with fried potatoes and coleslaw.

I hope everyone is safe and warm, happy Wednesday to all.

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, windy and cold here, no snow though.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was disjointed, boys had pizza and chips, we had takeaway once we got back from the hospital, boys had a share too. Tonight will be a quick meal as we have theatre tickets for us all that were part of the boys xmas prezzie.

Work yesterday was a rather all or nothing sort of day, but day passed quickly as we had staff off sick. Hoping today will pass quickly too.

Hospital visit was quite positive, mum not so muddled, and some friends there which was a nice surprise for her. She's walking a bit every day with a frame.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting. Sorry you are no better KARCHER but I know to my cost how these bugs can drag on and on and on .... DUMPLING my heart goes out to you, such a worry but it seems you have outside help this week at least. I hope it lasts and you don't feel so alone looking after Becky.

Last night turned into a nightmare with the weather. DD got to Bradford Alhambra eventually with middle DGD and 2 more children after an horrendous drive through snow and with bumper to bumper traffic. We expected the roads to be clearer after their performance but not so. Traffic at a standstill going nowhere. By 9.30 she'd had enough and booked them all into Jury's Inn for the night. So at least I knew they were safe, for last night at least. I hope the roads have been cleared overnight and they can get home safely this morning. I hate snow. Now we have gale force winds blowing for good measure too. Roll on Spring!!

I should be going to the hairdressers this morning but that now depends on the road into town and whether the bus is running. We don't look to have had any more snow overnight thankfully. I really need my hair sorting out - it's more a salvage operation really after I hacked away at it before Xmas when I was ill and had to cancel my appointment. Poor girl won't know where to start and I may need an estimate first!

I've just got some of Aldi's ys leek and cheese topped chicken breasts out to defrost for tea (reduced from £2.99 to £1.50) and a tub of hm Pea and Ham soup for lunch with a bagel. So meals organised at least! The rest of the day is weather dependant!

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad and worried who want them. Take care, especially if you have snow. xx

    Morning Everyone,

Dumpling Hope your first day at home with Becky goes well.

Monday went well with my mom and telling her about the deputyship application.
I am taking advice about paying moms bills through the solicitor. Just a few firms would not wait and wanted to pass the bills over to a debt collection agency.

It is 36 years today since my lovely dad died suddenly. I remember it was a bad year for snow. Also it was that cold the washing froze in the machine.

Have a good day everyone x

    Morning all,

Dumpling will be thinking of you today. Untill the locksmith comes please count your knives regularly in case one goes missing.

    Hester hope all is well.

ILC many hugs. I lost my Dad 37 years ago last November. I still think about him and miss him loads.

Snow here again. Sick of the stuff to be honest. I hope Youngest got to work ok. No snow where Grump is...just lots of rain. He says it hasn't stopped raining since he started work there in November.

Will be having Livewire after school for a couple of hours this afternoon whilst his Mummy is at work. His other Nanny will be having Diva as its her day.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
